I completely agree with you. I don't think the author is saying anything about abuse. The song is about accepting the flaws you are inherently forced into and at the same time acknowledging that while you cannot change these, it is still better off than the loss of mental will. |

Nothing to do with anyone in the story.
It's about the writing writer and his love with Erika Court. He's literally envisioning burying her alive in the ground, and her screaming why are you doing this? The writer comes to his senses, and has trouble continuing writer Star IV, and the rest of the album is him pretty much him coming at odds with his inner demons and being unable to finish the story. |

Some of you are really hitting the nail on the head, while quite a few others are out in left field.
Chris here is not being proud, or at all boastful. Rather, the song laments the fact that no matter how perfect, how flawless, how utterly charismatic this girl might be, she can't ultimately change his personality and his mood for the better. As another poster said, whenever Chris starts thinking: hey, this might just work out, in the end he comes to the sad realization he'll always be the same old flawed person he has ever been.

I just thought of something extremely profound ...
Examine the title and beat of this paticular Radiohead tune. It is a radical departure, to say the least, from their previous material. The dance beat plus title create the facade that this is a simple dance song. However, the lyrics are a grim reminder of reality; that we humans are destroying ourselves along with our home. The title and beat essentially represent the face that while we dance and keep ourselves occupied with simple rythms at these disco... errr.. idioteques there is so much more to be concerned about-- hidden both deep within the world and this song. |

Yeah this is definatly my favorite song on IYH Acoustic... I just felt that most of the acoustic cd was really bland and not very inspired, this definatly stood out
The cold day in the sun is a reference to the break up someone here mentioned... The fact that she's in the sun is her being in the spot light, probably for ending the relationship, it's cold because the relationship has turned to ice and is unaffectionate. |
