Isn't the second line: When she gets there she knows, if the STARS are all closed? It's not quite clear in the studio version but if you listen to for example the one off The Song Remains The Same it quite obvious. Since it is the favourite song of so many people, I thinks it's important to interpret the lyrics correctly. |

Yeah, ZeppelinRocks, that's the most likely scenario. Maybe Plant didn't feel so inspired and just wrote something about women, he had a lot of experience in that field, it doesn't always HAVE TO mean something. For example, someone dude gets high and writes lyrics at the same time. He looks in his lamp and writes: "The light hurts my eyes" or smth. Then someone comes along and translates it: "The truth can be very painful" or smth even if the writer didn't mean that originally. So I guess that's true that sometimes only the writer knows exactly what his lyrics mean. So it's not always wise to search for something very deep when it can be just plain simple. Hope you get my point. |

| And I repeat - IF you compare these two songs, I don't see much point in trying to find out which song is better when they are both ingenious. :) | |

Well, yeah, if you compare Stairway and Achilles, then Achilles is more original musically. Achilles is more complicated (im not saying that Stairway is lame or anything, but in comparison :)). But I like Stairway the way it is, I'm not bothered by it's "simplicity" or anything. Sometimes making a song too complicated can ruin the whole thing. As for the lyrics, well, amazing in both cases. The FEELING is very important. Both songs have a lot of soul in it with a touch of mystery. That's what i love about Zep. Everyone can translate the lyrics as the understand them. And when it comes to Achilles' lyrics, I think most of the ideas suggested here are correct because it is a mix of many stories, it never can be only about one experience. |
