The Smashing Pumpkins – Soma Lyrics 20 years ago
This song was written in/before 1993, Billy married Chris in 1992 and she filed for divorce in1996 so no, it's not about their divorce. I'm not going to start on incu as I'll have a heart attack on how idiotic that comment was.

Should I read 'Brave new World?' It sounds beautiful and poignant.

Oh yeah, the song. Fairly indignant, tearful, angry, lonely and powerful. This song in particular has the original and unpredictable pumpkin traits to it and I love the opera thingy at the end.

Treestump, please print something as all your messages are so gratuitously depressive that I'm scared your dead.

My friend told me that one day I'll walk into my dads bedroom and that song will be blaring and he'll be sitting in the corner with a knife in his hand and will kill me. Shine some light on this matter. Let me know what I should think. I happen to like this person so let me know if he's a psycho for thinking this and if I should avoid him for the rest of my days and stop fantasising.

This song is not about drugs, Billy corgan is clean and most likely always was.

I'm almost certain this song is about the thought process and daydreaming and a personally perfect world. That's where 'in my mind I'm everyone' comes from, fantasising and imagination. It sounds like a scene from fantasia almost, just because it's so bizarre and enchanted, not to degrade it.
Listen to the overall song and make up your own mind.
'The steams of my misfortune has given me the power to be afraid' is like him saying I'm allowed to be scared and introverted and that it makes sense. 'Of gods and their creations with
filth and disease' is probably a reference to hurtful reality, gods and creations possibly being media/society and how it apparently corrupts and destroys people and 'filth and disease' being by-products.
I think Twilight to Starlightcould be a life of a teenager but not dawn to dusk as its more cynical and Billy wrote here is no why later in life about an over-melodramatic younger self. Pretty good song but its not a pumpkin epic, thru the eyes of ruby is.

Poor treestump, I know how you feel although you posted your message three years ago.

Probably my second favourite pumpkin song. After liking this boy a lot and feeling confused, desperate, indignant, all self-inflicted emotions, I'd come home from school feeling inadequate and nervous and listen to this as it was one of the only things that could console me. Now his true colours have come out and I think he's a bit of an asshole Now though, loads of girls who'd never known who he was before I liked him like him and every boy in the place thinks I'm a suicidal slut, but what can you do. Homicide is my answer.

This song is so morbid and empty and has the typical pumpkin-charachteristic of elevation of sound-level mid-way or so. Its so uplifting at the end and very convictive and reassuring.

Its like liking, not yet loving, and losing but moving on gradually with your hand always out-reached and a little particle of you still longing and wanting.

And Billy Corgan is hot but you've got to say that James Iha and D'arcy are also. Jimmy is a bit too but looks a bit too old. I just wish Billy didnt cut or shave off his hair ever.

DONT READ MY ENTRY ABOVE AS i'VE MADE SOME VERY BAD TYPING MISTAKES WHICH WILL CONFUSE YOU'S ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This song smacks your bitch up. I dont want to think about that.

I love this song, best song in the world from the best album in the world from the best band in the universe for that matter although some of you's might think thats too far.

Its angry, passionate, confusing and dreamy and breath-taking. It encapsulates teenage angsty love perfectly.

I think Pyrris' theory is applicable to Twilight to Starlight as Dawn to Dusk seems a bit more cynical and as Here is no why was written by Billy about a younger melodramatic self.

Its probably about virginity and death and of course for fear of destroying it.

I remember just being thirteen for a week and hearing this cd which my brother had transferred on tape from years ago and although I didnt like it at first, luckily I didnt have another tape in the car so I made do and started loving it. This song has such a brilliant intro, so delicate and entricate and I instantly loved this song. I can even remember the scenery when I heard the intro and listening to it again and again.
I did notice the last line of stumbleine and emailed asking about it to what was meant to be Billy Corgans email but got no reply, naturally.
From the lines 'to the revelations' all the way to 'forever lost inside ourselves' it sounds frustrated, angry and a bit spiteful so beyondthestars theory is probably right but I think he's putting himself and this person in comparison with the rest of the world as if he's so resentful to everything and yet he loves and adores her so much that the two emotions compound into complete and utter devotion to her. Its scars, hatred, love, desperation, optimism tainted with realism, aspirations, wishes, awe and wishing for a true happy-ending though thats very confusing and sad but c'est la vie =}
