I think this song is meant to be a "fuck you" to someone. It's just supposed to convey all the pain and shit that he went through. It's about idolization. And being so infatuated with someone, and so obsessed with how they make you feel that you don't even notice everything they put you through until you're so broken you can't do anything about it. It feels like closure. |

I know that because of the time the song was released, it cannot possibly be about Freddy's battle with AIDS, but ever since I was old enough to understand what AIDS was, this song has held that connotation for me. It's got such a desperation to it. I definitely think it has a lot to do with the stigmas associated with being gay. The man he's killed is himself. He's sort of killed the perfect image he's been. He's let down his family. The "Trial" part I think is moreso just a take on all the judgements our society might make. Being gay can be a very lonely place, and I think a lot of the parts of this song really capture that. I suppose they also capture the lonliness of AIDS, with the inability to be physically intimate, and the way people stereotype and shun you. So even if the AIDS explanation isn't right, I still like it. |
