| The Gaslight Anthem – Here's Looking at You, Kid Lyrics
| 15 years ago

I think his lying did not happen during the relationship. I think he just wants the girls to be as upset about the situations as he is. He wants it all back. He wants to be loved and to love just the same. He tells them all the things he would have done if they would have let him. He just gets jilted continually and is reminded of them all the time. He does not have the balls to tell them himself, but wants them to find out some way, so he has friend do it.
I love this song and believe that GA is the best band around today. Their slow stuff is just amazing. |

Romeo and Juliet was a TRUE love story, as they did everything to be together and died without ever falling even the smallest bit out of love. Not one of you idiots who is hating on others can say that. People should want the kind of love that they had. Love enough to die for. Fighting for what they have. Most of the "older" people hating on the teens are just cynical and hateful, because the world has taken their love from them. Get over yourselves. Don't hate on teenagers. They understand the way things are supposed to work. Do not forget Romeo and Juliet were barely in their teens when they went through this, so only a small percent of the population is able to understand. |

Just wanted to add a situation that happened to me. When I was in high school I had a friend who was constantly picked on because he was a different race. I was from a small town and whatever. Well one day, I said something to him that was racial. He told me I was being just like a bully that had picked on me too. I was totally changed that one day, because I saw what I was going to end up being like.
Well we were pretty good friends through high school and moved away in college. I saw him a few times, went to his 21st bday and all, etc. He got married after his senior year of college, graduated, was in the army and everything. He had a great life going on for him. He was finishing his last run for whatever he was in in the army, collapsed and died a few days later. They found out he had a form of Sickle Cell Anemia. I didn't even know that he had died until weeks later.
The kid was like the kid in the song, but he got through high school and everything was going great for him. It sucks how life works out sometimes.
One last note on the story, a few weeks later I talked to his wife on the internet and found out she was pregnant with his kid. |

I do not see this as a total stab at Bush it is more talking about America. There is hope throughout the song though. The song speaks of the noble cause etc. It is how we deal with the situations that arise. I think that being in America comes with responsibilities from President all the way down. We must all do our part. Most would rather just complain about what is going on, but when push comes to shove, the status quo is the way that it is going to be.
To me, this song is a song of action. We must do what we say and use the power that our parents and grandparents fought so hard to give us. Uniting again to do what is right. |

I think this can be very much about addiction. He has given up and wants to be with someone that he promised that he would become clean. I think he has and will in this song. Seems straight forward that he is going to do whatever it takes to be with her and near her from here on out. They want to enjoy the simple things in life and watch the fireworks. I promise I will see them with you now. |

I do not think that this and tiny vessels are about the same situation. I can see why someone would think that they were, but I see this as more of a relationship than tiny vessels. That one seems more like a fling on vacation where this one seems like they were together for at least a little while.
The annulment thing makes more sense, since it seems as though they had to have lived together. The paper thing confused me until I read about that.
Awesome song. |

I think that you need to listen to the cd more. I did not love it the first few times, but it will grow on you just like it did me. It is not "The Everglow", but not much can be. It is a major label CD. We all knew it wouldn't be great, but it is very, very good.
On this song, it annoyed the piss out of me the first few times I listened to it, but now I LOVE it. Songs 2-4 might be able to run with any three song stretch on Everglow. They are amazingly catchy and good. |

| Unwritten Law – Seein' Red Lyrics

I really think most of you are wrong on this song. I have listened to this song about a million times and I think that the singer and the girl are in a relationship. She just has other priorities. Other things come before him and their relationship. She is doing so many other things that she cannot give him what he needs, so he is done with it.
Maybe I am just applying it to a situation I have been in, but I do not see another guy in this situation at all, and I think the girl really does like/love the singer. She just has put herself in so many other places that she cannot love him like she needs to.
Also, I noticed today when I was looking to see if the video was on their website, and it is, that the song is titled See'In Red, not Seein' Red. I do not know if that makes any difference, but very interesting.
The Bush analogy is better than the addict one, but Bush had not been around very long when this song came out, so I think it is just about a guy and a girl. End of story. |

I dont see this song as too confusing. Maybe I am just simplifying it. The guy is taking a girl to a hotel after a school dance, probably prom. They are driving while drinking. They crash. I think she dies, but he does not. |

| Straylight Run – It's For the Best Lyrics
| 19 years ago

This song is obviously about faith. It is how all of us who look to God for strength feel once we leave everything we have known. John is totally feeling the Quarter Life Crisis, where he does not feel the same way that he did when he was young, and he does not know where to go from here.
Everyone who is saying this is not about the Christian faith is just lying to themselves. Even in a post earlier, John's own words reference how the song is about it. You can say there is no God, and say that there is no proof, but there is not proof for many scientific beliefs. I mean the Big Bang? Yeah, that is a better idea than a Higher Power.
This songs talks about how I exactly feel. I was a better person earlier in life. I may have learned more, but I am not who I was because of it. I regret that, and so does John. We are looking for our way back, but we do not know if we will ever find it. The thing is that if we do have God, we know that we also have hope. If you do not, then you can be out on your ass without hope. I would much rather be wrong after I am dead as a believer than being wrong as a non-believer. |

I think this song has new meaning with the impending break up of the Kids. I am hoping that one of these days they will come back with a reunion show. Also, I am so glad that someone asked about the K-10. The Get Up Kids are great for representing the great state of Kansas, home of the Fungi. Well I hope the bands that will be formed out of the ashes of this terrific band can be very Phoenix-like. |

I know what Mae says the song and album are about and most of the songs can describe a relationship between a person and God, but I am looking at this as a human relationship. The reason that I really think that they have missed the boat on capitalizing on the name of the album. Everclear did a great job with the Afterglow, so Mae should do the same with the Everglow which is more meaningful and harder to capture, but the album is pure genius. |

I think it is upbeat, because even tho it is not something that they wanted to happen the end result was so great that it made the mistakes okay. I know that Mae would not make these mistakes twice, but sometimes a mistake can be a good thing. |

| Motion City Soundtrack – Hold Me Down Lyrics

It is all about how he makes her feel. I think in a relationship that the other person does things to you that make you feel great at one minute and terrible at another. That explains the burst and bloom. I think the first part is that she thinks of him as her everything still, but it is just an echo now not the distinct voice that it used to be. She says in the first verse that he is always sleeping, so the laziness might work back in there, but it might also be just the laid back comfortable way that we feel on a Sunday afternoon and she knows she can feel that way with him. And he makes her feel empty, bc he will never be the man that she needs and the most of the world feels this at one time or another. |

I like this song, but I have a correction. This song is not about him leaving her. It is a letter than he found from her. He just is not the man that she needs him to be. Many times we are that way and even though we can make her "burst and bloom" it isnt worth it to the woman. |

What is Dave Eggers book about? Is it about an unplanned pregnancy? When I started to listen to it, I knew it was about a baby, but you dont know until the end what their choice is and of course it is the right one. I think this song could be a response to Ben Fold's "Brick" where the other choice is made. |

I really hoped someone would have said something about the name of the song. I thought of it as soon as I started listening to the album. The Everglow is feeling postcoital all the time. That is what true love is. Most people will not experience this feeling, it is impossible, but Mae does a great job at describing it throughout the album, which is just solid from beginning to end. Even the beginning and ending tracks are nice. Does anyone think this is a concept album about the "one true perfect love?" Just wondering. |

I think that the couple in this song are still together and he is just showing how much he loves her by saying that he needs her there tonight. She makes everything better. This album could easily be the best album of 05. |

| Ozma – Baseball Lyrics

I do not think that the girl in the song was not his gf, excuse the double negative. I think that they dated and now he wants everything back. I do not think he is much past his high school years. He does not want his childhood back. That is not childhood. They have kept in contact but scarcely, bc he knows where she lives. I do not think that he wants her back, but he wants her to think of him like he thinks of her. We all just want to be loved as much as we love. They have moved on, but that first real love is always special. It is baseball for most of us boys, so that is why Ozma used it. Baseball and first loves are very intertwined.
I can connect with the song well, because I had a gf my Senior Year of baseball and I remember looking into the stands everytime I stepped to the plate. Her smiling face made everything alright. We never have that after "baseball" is over. |

I think that Weez had a good post about Madame Butterfly earlier, but I think that everyone is missing something in the song. In the second verse Rivers says, "Maybe I need fantasy, life of chasing Butterfly" I think that Rivers thinks that the girl is what he wants at one point, but when he gets away he thinks he wants something else. He sees something that he wants and he goes for it only to find out the next day or whatever, that it really isnt what he wanted. He will go through his entire life looking from butterfly to butterfly. The grass is greener on the other side is what he, and many of us, believe. |

I think that this song is unlike all other Finch songs. They were too scared to put this out as a single which is sad. I agree with some of what has been said, but not all. I do not think that Ender is a sign of the end, but maybe a reference to either Metallica or Dashboard Confessional. It might actually be both. If you listen to their music, you can see where I am going with this. I do not believe that the relationship is over, or do I believe that the girl is in a coma. I do believe something tragic has happened. It is deep and dark. Maybe the girl has lost someone and he cant help her. I just see her staring out the window into the dark, rainy abyss. He cant help the fact that this has torn them apart. It also could be an abortion. |

I cant believe I wasted time signing up just to tell all the guys what they need to do with this song. The ending where he says "dump your boyfriend and go out with me" is a great oppurtunity to hit on girls. Telling them that you will treat them like a queen helps too. It is a surefire way to get some. Use your music Emokids. |
