I just have a feeling that this song is about a scooter gang (Quadrophenia-style). There's the kids with pimped out bikes, they aren't the underdogs. I like to imagine that the Underdogs are a couple kids who don't have bikes but if they do they're like kind of junked scooters. The Underdogs want it more than the kids who have the good bikes. Rialto's lyrics are always my favorites and the way the music to this song makes being an Underdog sound utterly glorious it the best. |

If you've got the new Definitely Maybe DVD (which I highly recommend to any Oasis fan) there's explanations from band members for each song. I like their stories for 'Columbia' best, they all seem to have the same thoughts on it: it sounded good in the studio, it's fun to play live, the groove in it is the best. With lyrics like this I like to think that only Oasis is allowed because they're the coolest and best at it as far as I'm concerned. With a song like this I'm not that troubled by strange lyrics because the music takes you away from it. And, yea, I think on the DVD they do say that Liam more than co-wrote this song. |

I haven't read any of the other posts about what the lyrics mean but this song is the first song I ever really loved and couldn't get enough of when it first came out. I never really cared about the lyrics or what they meant either, the song is just really nice and when I listen to it I try really hard to feel like i felt when I first heard it when I was like 11 or something. |

I think Herorgy69 almost has it. But the meanings not all in the video. They're in "heaven". But when you get what you want it's no fun anymore. I loved it when Blur was obsessed with modern life and progress. The Universal is a prediction of what'll happen if we continue to automate everything and speed things up and all that stuff. And that's the line "When the days they seem to fall through you..." So like think about when you're at work or in school and you look at your clock and you're like "Geez, what the hell, this takes forever." You're kind of trying to fall through the day. According to Damon, pretty soon it'll be the other way around.
Best line: Every paper that you read says tomorrow's your lucky day. Well here's your lucky day.
That one kind of gets to me. The way he sings it is like, "Want it!? HERE! Take it, you may not like it." |
