| A Perfect Circle – The Nurse Who Loved Me (Failure cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is a poetic masterpiece that obviously has to do with the effects unhealthy addiction. The addiction caused the sufferer to sneeze out the apples of his eyes (apple of your eye = what is most important to you), which became even more important to him when they fled his presence due to him pushing them, or reflexively sneezing them, out of his life. Thus, addictions rape us of what's most important to us and leave us pacified on the ground, or rug, with a sense of shrinking intelect. | |

(to The Outsider: it definitely says "well", not "hell") I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who this song means much to. You all seem to have some good insights into what it might mean, but I'd particularly like to bring attention to strawberrypopx and her b/f's post (about halfway down). I would urge all of you to take into consideration the context in which "The Noose" takes place. The title of the album, "13th Step" clearly shows that it refers to a recovery process that is uncompletable and without a sense of closure (13 steps instead of the usual 12). Take a look at the track listing on the back of the cd. The first twelve track #'s are lit, but the 13th is suspiciously in the dark. One might assume that its about addiction, and if you're an addict, that would be you're initial reaction. But then what about the clear inications of an involved woman (check out track 2's solitary siren, which conspicuously comes right before "Noose"). "The Nurse Who Loved Me" also speaks of addiction and what it does to people; but read the title and you'll see it's about a nurse, who is very likely to be an addict herself. Thus, I have come to believe that the entire cd is one big story of an incomplete process on how to deal with a bad relationship. The speaker in "Noose" had a bad relationship with a woman who outwardly believes herself to be higher than he, but who is, in reality, a conceited bitch who's is in denial of who she really is and what she's done to him (or maybe she just doesn't care). The speaker wants to kill himself for the pain that this slut has caused him, and wants to make her aware that she isn't perfect, despite what she may think, because of the way she treats others. I can see the serial killer theory, but it just doesn't make sense in context. Also, the political aspect could be true, and I personally think it's sprinkled throughout APC's music, but I doubt that it's a main theme b/c it doesn't make sense in context. Lastly, APC is purposefully ambiguous. We all could be right, and I think it's sad that some of you get so angry at eachother. The music was made to be enjoyed, and this is good fu__in music; go enjoy it. Please, if any of you'd like to discuss this album, don't hesitate to contact me. |
