In my opinion, bits of it sound like the break up the band went through just before Century Child was recorded. The Child in the song could very well be Nightwish, which Tuomas killed for a short time after Over The Hills was recorded. Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica helped convince Tuomas to reform the band, but with the new bassist, Marco, leaving Sami Vanska behind. Which can be easily fit to the first chorus: "It is the end of all hope, To lose the child, the faith, To end all the innocence, To be someone like me..." "No will to wake for this morn To see another black rose born Deathbed is slowly covered with snow" The next line and part of the chorus could be very well relating to the rebirth of the dead child: "This is the birth of all hope To have what I once had This life unforgiven It will end with a birth" "Angels, they fell first but I'm still here Alone as they are drawing near In heaven my masterpiece will finally be sung" In it, he's probably refering to their first album "Angels Fall First", saying that they're still here, even if they died, and they will eventually be heard. "Wounded is the deer that leaps highest And my wound it cuts so deep Turn off the light and let me pull the plug Mandylion without a face Deathwish without a prayer End of hope End of love End of time The rest is silence" Just summing up and repeating what is already said about the band's breakup and reformation. Deathwish, again, could very well be a play on words for Nightwish. |

Actually, the song means nothing, according to Bernard. They just meant it sound good... Of the previous versions of this song (Prime/ Video 5-8-6, As You Said (from Warsaw's era (early Joy Division)! and 5-8-6), only one of those has lyrics, and that's the last... That song, 5-8-6, is damn good, and, IMO, better then this. |

This song should be obvious. A tale of the lighthouse keeper who promised his love to a girl before she took a trip on a luxury liner (it sounds like). He falls asleep after having a night on the town the previous night, and awakes in horror to find out that night long since fallen with no lighthouse lit on the night his beloved comes home. He prays for the full moon to light the sea, but, to no avail. He's soon tried in the courts for the murdering of every person aboard the White Pearl. Unable to stand their hatred and the fact he killed both his wife, unborn child, and all the passengers aboard, he leaps from the top of his tower to let the blackness swallow him. Awesome song, might I add. |

It sounds like another werewolf song. A great job by Sonata Arctica, might I add. "I have always known the storm would come... Listen now, my young ones This not a story I tell of midnight, moon and sun... Are you ready to walk the forbidden road learn again what we tried to forget The dark can now take over you" Lyrics are retelling of their past of being werewolves, different from humans. The dark can now take over you is a reference to the full moon, which causes them to change to their wolf-like forms. “We have a common past, an ancient bond The people once broke We would only take what we need, They would harvest our weak, But they hunted us all, We ended the last of them, thus far, ten lifetimes ago In hopes of healing the sore, but the war still went on” Again, about humans hatred of such creatures. They were hunted until very few remained, and they remain in hiding to survive. “Preying for the moon, Hiding for the day These might be our last times I ain't gonna see you taken away... Heading for the dawn Of our way of life You're welcome to give it your best try... Look me in the eyes, oh, wolver This ain't your fairy tale...” About the hunting of them, again. Apparently, the narrator is hoping that they and her children and family wont be discovered as what they really are, and run to keep themselves hidden. This ain’t your fairy tale probably means that it is the truth, this is real, you can’t close your eyes and it would simply go away. “It took us many years to teach them How to cry wolf We made the people serve the purpose Those ignorant fools... my young ones! Teach the ones below you something you've learned. And learn from the ones above you Fear is your deepest wisdom For these last days...” They revenged by making people fear them, afraid of them, despite what the werewolves wanted. “The ones who seek justice, will pray for it all their lives... They can and they will skin us all one day... oh can you hear them cries As far as the man can run from us we're following the trail of blood So hunt my young ones, the pack they have always feared is back” The wolves want justice to the wrongs done to their race. The leader wants the pack to hunt down the humans who took their own and make them regret ever doing it. “They don't fear the wolf, but the wild within no glory to the way this must end This is a story I told Unfolding before you” This is bound to happen for all eternity, for as long as they exist. They have to live with this curse, and for as long as they do, they will be hated and hunted. |

It's a cover on New Order's take on the song. Joy Division originally planned this (and, there is a released recording of "Detail"/"Details", a studio recording of this), but New Order added in the extra verse at "Hangman looks round as he waits...", as a tribute to Ian Curtis. The first two verses are talking about Ian's love of his wife that has grown cold, due to his cheating on her with the reporter Annik. The other I heard was that it was about the Nuclear bombings of Japan. *shrug* I'm aiming for the former, though. |
