I like & agree with most of your very in-depth review, but the only part I don't know about is if this is an auto-biographical song. From what I understand, her parents are still together, so I wonder if she's writing this from someone's story...Which isn't a bad thing, but that's what catches me. Unless there's tension between her parents, which could very well be true, obviously their lives aren't our concerns. Also, I don't think the song is about sex. I think the character is scared of being in a relationship at all, I interpret the "mistakes" of her parents that they rushed into a relationship or something, and that the dad might have left ["careless man"], and so growing up she thinks that no relationship will last and love isn't worth anything ["Wondering why we'd bother with love, if it never lasts"] and after they fight she thinks he'll automatically leave [bracing myself for goodbye, 'cause that's all I've ever known"]. But this boy breaks that idea for her ["you made me believe in love, for the first time" & "you took me by surprise and said I'll never leave you alone"--sounds like the dad left the mom all alone with no warning when the going got tough, so she assumed that'd happen to her]. I think the majority of the song is about the character's parent's mistakes and how this girl told herself growing up that she'd NEVER be like her parents, so she doesn't believe in love until this boy comes along. |

I almost think parts of this refer to the Jesse incident [years old, yes, but you never know]. "Come on, tell me that you’re better And you rather just forget that Things have gone so far Yeah, tell me that you’re better And you'd rather just forget that Things have gone too far" Mostly that part. Of course, it could be a combination of more than one person/situation, but that verse definitely makes me think about the Brand New/TBS feud. Might also be because I'm currently investigating the lyrics to "There's no 'I' in Team" and "Seventy Times 7"... |

To me, this song is about an ex you just kept going back to whenever they asked [or begged]. It's a beautifully sung, beautifully worded song about something sad. But good for her for realizing what was going on! I think this song could be a continuation of "White Horse," or at the least it's about the same boy. Lyrics from "White Horse:" "Say you're sorry/That face of an angel/Comes out just when you need it to/As I paced back and forth all this time/Cause I honestly believed in you/Holding on/The days drag on/Stupid girl,/I should have known, I should have known" It just seems to fit. Also, at the end of the song, I think it's "but I watched all of it fade" instead of "But I watched our love, it fade" |

The verse that starts "What if we were married forever" also makes me think about him and Something Corporate still being together. I agree with what frozenphoenix32 said about "Everything in Transit," But I also think the last line might be "'Everything's' a piece of everyone," as in EIT. I definitely enjoy the second part of the song better than the first part. The verse that starts with "Beat my body like a rag doll" amazes me, and is CLEARLY about cancer. |

I think it's supposed to be "Well I don't see no holes in the road But you find another place to fall." I was hearing it the other way for a while, but then a few hours later I heard it differently. This way makes more sense to me, like she's telling this person that she can't see the problems but they are finding them all by themselves. I have a friend like that who asks for advice all the time but doesn't actually want to hear it. |

After watching the video, I think she feels like she and a new boy have had a love in the past [I'm talking lifetimes ago], and she's convincing the boy in the present that they belong together, which is what the chorus is. "We were both young when I first saw you," also could be that they met lifetimes ago, thus being "young." "So close your eyes, escape this town for a little while," sounds like she's telling him to close his eyes and see the flashback that she started in the first verse. Also, the part that says "I got tired of waiting...," makes me think about the old stories [Romeo & Juliet, A Scarlet Letter] because it didn't work out for them, and she's saying that now it's going to work out between them, he just needs to understand. |
