| The White Stripes – St. James Infirmary Blues Lyrics | 18 years ago |
one of the most beautiful songs ever. every version i've ever heard is just so eeriely calming, yet sad. emotionally powerful for sure and the rambled words are jazz band and hell, so it'd go "put a red hot jazz band, hell, we raise, as we go along" |
| The White Stripes – Cannon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| wow, you people suck. This is perhaps the most brilliant combination i've ever seen from an artist of words and music to accompany and perfectly deliver their point... and yet, all you can say about it is "its like...awesome" and something about a crazy man singing. just read these, THINK about them for a moment, and then listen to the song, and it will change your life | |
| The White Stripes – Cannon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
think about it, this song is about the world ending. or as you religious nuts might call it, the apocalypse. It's starting out with a war, obviously an invasion, as its "outside, my door" and then john the revelator starts the religious aspect (picture god smiting all the evil) with the last verse being jack's repent to god. |

| Blink-182 – Dumpweed Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"turn your back and run now cmon son, you haven't got a chace now" ^ what his father tells him turn your back and run now, you haven't got a chance now ^ what he tells himself at the end of the song goes to show how parents can fuck with their childrens mindsets, for better or worse |
| Blink-182 – Fuck a Dog Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| how is it possible that this song has over 200 comments? dont you all know any other songs? Any other REAL songs, not just jokes. | |
| Blink-182 – The Party Song Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| he says "here we go motherfuckers" in the begining probably just to hype himself up...this has to be the toughest song in the world to sing (and play bass at the same time) | |
| Weezer – Butterfly Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Whisper, i always thought the line "I did what my body told me too" led to him capturing the butterfly in the first place, not sex. Its like childhood innocence, he didnt know that capturing the butterfly would kill her, he just wanted something beautiful for his own and yes, matthew sharp is missed |

| The White Stripes – Now Mary Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is so good, such a powerful message in under 2 min. yea, marktb, i was about to be with a girl like this too. Then I popped in White Blood Cells one day, and once I got to this track, I rethought the whole scenario. "I'm sorry mary, but being you mate, means trying to find something that you aren't going to hate" wow, so good, so concise...i learned to play this on guitar, and one day soon am hoping to play it for her hahaha |
| The White Stripes – The Same Boy You've Always Known Lyrics | 20 years ago |
If theres anything good about me, I'm the only one who knows... wow....just, wow, what a line |
| The White Stripes – Little Bird Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| anyone else notice how this riff is basically the "Death Letter" riff backward? Fast notes before three slow ones...and "Death Letter" is three slow notes before fast ones | |
| The White Stripes – I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"And i love my sister lord knows how i've missed her she loves me and she knows i won't forget sometimes i get jealous of all her little pets and i get lonely, but i ain't that lonely yet" Even though they're divorced, Jack lets Meg know he still cares about her, and he always will. He gets jealous of the guys she sees (her "little pets"), but he doesn't let that ruin the relationship they still have with one another |
| George Harrison – My Sweet Lord Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is amazing...I love George Harrison so much. He is definitely my favorite Beatle, and this is my favorite of his solo work. Owen, that was probably one of the conrtibuting factors on the breakdown of the Beatles, John's utter disregard for religion, and George's high regard for it rest in peace, George, you deserve it |
| The White Stripes – Little Ghost Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i thought it was jack overdubbed harmonizing with himself.... | |
| The White Stripes – Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I love the behind the nut strums on this song, they remind me of the first record. It looks like everyone already coverd this song, but two quick things...Caleby, I always thought he said "i'll see the benfit" too...and "Give me a sugar pill and watch me just rattle down the street" is probabaly the coolest line ever |
| The White Stripes – The Nurse Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is so so so chilling...the subdued vocals, the bursts of guitar, the comforting marimba, and that really really freaky piano build I think its about betrayal by the ones closest to us, even though they'll say "No, I'm never gonna let you down now..." |
| The White Stripes – Little People Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| haha yea, i hate to criticize Jack, but this song is just....ugh | |
| The White Stripes – Red Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| btw, the red rain would be the other guys blood, i forgot to point that out | |
| The White Stripes – Red Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i think the red rain is a metaphor for violence I was thinking that maybe Jacks girl was cheating on him, so he confronted the other guy, and the confrontation turned bloody, and Jack ends up killing the other guy. He then does to his girls house, standing in the "red rain", and calls her out. The things he says try to make her feel guilty... "You think not telling is the same as not lying, don't you? Then I guess not feeling is the same as not crying to you" she never told him about the other guy, so technically she never lied about it, and she didnt feel any shame or never had to cry because she didnt think he knew "If there is a lie, then there is a liar too and if there is a sin, then there is a sinner too" The other guy is the lie, Jack's girl is the liar, the murder is the sin, and Jack is the sinnner. Definitely, along with Instinct Blues, my fav on the new album, and i agree Nosdravde, when Jacks voice goes from one speaker to the other it sounds really wicked |
| The White Stripes – Instinct Blues Lyrics | 20 years ago |
candy cane child, i agree with you, this song DEFINITELY stands out among the otehr on Get Behind Me Satan...it's really one of the only truly rocking songs...this is straight blues here, it's really an excellent song. I think its about how Jack is frustrated with someone (probably a girl), and he relates it to nature. He says how it is instinctive (hence the title) that almost everything in nature gets 'it', and he can't understand why his girl can't 'get with it', and he's fed up Maybe he's mocking her out, calling her an idiot? That would be a nice homage to Dylan's 'Idiot Wind' |
| The White Stripes – Little Ghost Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this song is about a guy being so lonely that his mind creates the apparition of a beautiful young girl that he falls in love with. Hes not sure if she exists or not, but he is for sure that he's the only one who can see her (said several times) There is a line that says "because of my condition". I interpreted the condition as insanity, meaning the ghost is entirely made up, and the guy is going crazy from lonliness |
| The White Stripes – Blue Orchid Lyrics | 20 years ago |
great tune, killer video as well little interpretation... "Get behind me, get behind me now anyway" Renee Zellweger (sic)? Jason Stollmeister (sic)? Satan himself (after all, Jack almost was a preacher) ? Whoever he means, that line is about about moving on. |
| Modest Mouse – The Waydown Lyrics | 20 years ago |
the drums sound really great on this song modest mouse is truly underrated |
| Elliott Smith – Miss Misery Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Miss Misery could also be his addictions, I try to be But you know me I come back when you want me to also the chorus... Do you miss me, miss misery like you say you do? his addiction is being characterized as an ex girlfriend who lies about wanting him and being good for him. He knows its not the right thing to do, but he always goes back to her, and his addiciton |
| Elliott Smith – Miss Misery Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this song is heartbreaking, the way he sings it, makes me cry The one line... "i don't have you with me but i keep a good attitude" makes me think of my dad who passed away last year elliott is most definitely music's greatest loss since lennon was killed |
| Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
there are no words for the utter perfection this song achieves. I hold it in the highest esteem when it comes to composition and songwriting. so so so powerful....thats all you can really say |
| Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics | 20 years ago |
WAH WAH!!! the solo is simple but it still kicks ass! does anyone else agree this song would be infinitely better without the "gimme gimme"s in the chorus? They are annoying as hell and contribute nothing at all to the song |
| Taking Back Sunday – Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is one of those songs that you are proud to know before anyone else, since it's now wildy popular and every wannabe fan or wannabe emo kid knows the words, what some may call smellsliketeenspirit-itis . But anyway... I love the kids who friggin write an essay for this song, and how ridiculous that is. ITS EMO! you dont' need 40 paragraphs to explain it. The lyrics aren't deep, he comes out and says exactly what he wants to say. Theres no hidden meaning. It's ironic that on a 'songmeanings' website, the lyrics with the most basic meanings get the most posts. You can sum up any emo lyrics as "My girlfriend left me and I hate myself" If you kids want to discuss deep meaning, listen to Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Jane's Addiction, Nirvana....but not emo for christs sake By the way I love that list, although i hope you were'nt ragging on Billie Joe's vocals, it's not his fault he is copied, even though he copped Johnny (joey? i can never remember) Ramone's stlye of singing |
| Coldplay – Yellow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i heard this live, and at the end Martin goes "That's the prettiest song you'll ever hear about prisons" i don't really see the meaning with prisons, but it's prolly been discussed on one of the 6 pages (I'm too lazy to look) |
| Simple Plan – I'm Just A Kid Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Simple Plan – Don't Wanna Think About You Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This is a cover of an old Blind Willie Mctell song kind of big on the ego, mr. mctell was, with these lyrics |
| The White Stripes – China Pig Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| In the begining of Let's Build a Home, there is a little kid who sings a song called Little Red Box, and in the song A Boy's Best Friend, Jack writes about dogs, allusions both in the third verse | |
| The White Stripes – Lafayette Blues Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| FRENCH NAMES RULE!! - Jack White's thought process | |

my nice little, blue-sy, subdued anthem for when i leave to college. Mainly the first verse |
| The White Stripes – Sister, Do You Know My Name Lyrics | 20 years ago |
He's singing this one to Meg, whom he refers to as his older sister during shows (even thought they are ex-spouses) He wants her attention |
| The White Stripes – Aluminium Lyrics | 20 years ago |
the best part is the Ahhhhhhhhhh, but I don't really think the 3rd Ahhhhhhhhhh measures up to the rest (j/k) |
| The White Stripes – Death Letter Lyrics | 20 years ago |
the live versions are the best, because he expands on the guitar solo, and they also throw in their own version of "Grinnin' in your Face", which is another Son House song, and apparantly Jack's favorite song of all-time and there is no video, Hotel Yorba was their first |
| The White Stripes – Ball and Biscuit Lyrics | 20 years ago |
everyone says this song has sexual connotations, but i don't hear it. To me, this song is about a guy who wants to beat the shit outta his girlfriend (much like "Southern Can is Mnie". The solos are when he's letting her have it, and the verses he's speaking to her "It's quite possible that I'm your third man girl But it's a fact that I'm the seventh son (x2) And right now you could care less about me But soon enough you will care, by the time I'm done" He is pissed about the other two guys she's been with, and she seemingly doesn't care about him, so he's gonna give her a beating to remember him by. "Let's have a ball and a biscuit sugar And take our sweet little time about it (x2) Tell everybody in the place to just get out And we'll get clean together And I'll find me soapbox where I can shout it" He's gonna clear the place out and have a ball letting her have it, thus making her clean after being with the other two guys "Read it in the newspaper Ask your girlfriends and see if they know (x2) That my strength is ten fold girl I'll let you see if you want to before you go" He knows he's famous and he deserves this girls respect, telling her to ask her friends about himself, then says she's not leaving this place without a whopping But the thing that really made me think this is about abuse is inbetween the middle and end solo you can here Jack, in anger, telling his girl "do ya get it! Did i get the point out!?" I dont' know it's prolly about sex like every is saying, but that's what i get from it |
| The White Stripes – Wasting My Time Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"And If you're saying goodbye please don't you think me bitter, so recalling every rhyme from the book the page the line the word the letter" IMHO, the best lyrics Jack has ever written |
| The White Stripes – Red Death at 6:14 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| maybe he'll put this song on the LP | |
| The White Stripes – Red Death at 6:14 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Jack is a brilliant little fuck isn't he? I say this because of the release date of the new album...6-14-05 Red Death at 6:14 |
| Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| wow that first sentence sounds retarded. It should read 'I'm surprised that the number of posts hasn't exploded yet' | |
| Weezer – Beverly Hills Lyrics | 20 years ago |
im surprised this hasn't the nukber of posts hasn't exploded yet...anyone, i agree with the user who said this sounds like Cake, cause it does i like it, but the guitars are pretty weak (cept the solo, which saves the song) |
| The White Stripes – Sugar Never Tasted So Good Lyrics | 20 years ago |
oh man thats so goddman hilarious! Haha never thought this nice little acoustic bit could have sexual connotations There are more (potentially) perverted lyrics on the ST album.... Screwdriver; "first you think about your little sister, then you gotta drive it home" eh? anyone? Jimmy the Exploder; He's asking his Jimmy to explode, and his monkey is jumping on the bed tee hee hee sick minds in this world |
| The White Stripes – Stop Breaking Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| eric clapton also did this song recently on his 'Me and Mr. Jonhnson' album | |
| The White Stripes – Hand Springs Lyrics | 20 years ago |
this is friggin hilarioius. I love the way he does the spoken word so blankly, like he doesn't care that his girl left him. He sounds so emotionless If you really want it, look for the album White Blood Cells. I bought mine, and it had a DVD attached that had the band's first four music videos, Lafayette Blues, and Hand Springs. It's a nice treat |
| The White Stripes – I Fought Piranhas Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i don't think it sounds anything like Dazed and Confused, as that song is driven by a killer bass line, and a guitar played with a bow, with a super complex solo. This song has no bass and a slide guitar, and it is way more bluesy and slow in the solo | |
| The White Stripes – St. James Infirmary Blues Lyrics | 20 years ago |
the piano sounds like its from 1803, i love it and yes, like everyone was saying, this isn't a white stripes penned song, it is traditional, and the lyrics are the Joe Primrose version |
| The White Stripes – Why Can't You Be Nicer To Me? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
if you heard any led zep song, you'd realize that this sounds nothing like them. Anyway, this song is about suicide, i think "off a bridge and falling nobody's calling on the ground and laying nobody's praying" these lines explain that |
