This is so wrong. The song is called, "Thank You For Not Moshing," and it begins, 'When I'm in the pit I'm gonna punch and kick." Psh. |

| Butch Walker – A Song Without a Chorus Lyrics

Not to be totally anal, but I'm pretty sure there's no, "A" in the title. No matter... I love the song. It's true that Butch's songs tend to have very catchy choruses, and despite his striving to not have one in this song, I find myself feeling as though the whole thing is one big chorus. I also really like the female vocal echo. Butch always makes good use of those... not making them seem totally forced. Great stuff. I love the imagery. |

This song is the EXACT situation in my life currently. Nothing could be more fitting. My boyfriend just sent it to me. It's incredible. |

I have loved Jimmy Eat World for a long time. I saw them live for the second time recently and they played this song, which is definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite. It was great live.
Great tune, great lyrics. I quote the chorus too much for my own good |

Hey, aleahxox, Haro is a bike company like saintnate said. It's especially cool for me because my boyfriend's last name is Haro. Kinda like a bonus to the song. I've loved it sicne the minute I heard it. It's quirky and catchy in a not overly-catchy pop sort of way. Definitely one of my favorite songs. |

i also thought it was "propose the worst, and I'm (instead of all) the first in line", but I could be wrong... I put my RIO CD jacket in a time capsule.
As for the song meaning, I agree with Sean. |

wow, guys. maybe I'm just like a crazily die-hard s9 fan or something, but that's not what the song is about. well i guess you could see it that way... but this is it. This song is about masturbation. He was pleasing himself, and his girlfriend walked in and caught him in the act. Now she's in his shower thinking about it, and he's waiting outside, and theres really thick tension in the air. He's trying to figure out what to say, so he writes a song for her to contemplate at a later date, to get her to understand. |

its about knowing that life's short and trying to get control of it, but it always slips out of your control. it's about not wanting life to be a routine cycle, and trying to life it to the fullest. I'm learning to play it on the guitar. I love it |

ah, relationship problems. lack in communication, a biggie. it's about denying that there's a problem, and then when you admit it, and you're trying to work it out, the other person doesn't want to tell you what they're thinking. |

it's about finding a girl that he thinks is amazing. she's wild and fun and dirty, and he loves it. then eventually he realizes that he doesn't know how far the realtionship can go, because he doesn't even really know her "This is it, this is great, this is what I always wanted, where do we go from here? thats the question of the year" |

slud is completely right. this isn't about a girl. The guys had moved (back, at least for Luke) to SF and when they had just finished their album, Universal told them that they wanted different songs. The frusteration not only comes from the record company, but from city life in general, and even frusteration with the music industry itself. nice goin', slud |

When I first heard this song it was back when I was applying to high schools (yea... I know... applying to high school?), nonetheless, I heard this song and when they said M.A.? I was like do they mean Marin Academy (my 2nd choice school)? then I checked back on their site and read that they Luke, John and Greg all went there. That was exciting, created a good topic.
Anyway... this song is pretty self-explainitory, but hard to understand unless you've been to Marin |

| Stroke 9 – Kick Some Ass Lyrics

ok, thedarkpenguin is essentially right. Luke Esterkyn (lead vocals/guitar), John McDermott (guitar/back vocals), and Greg Gueldner (bassist [formerly]) all went to Marin Academy (an artsy, hippie high school located in San Rafael [in Marin County, a suburb of San Francisco], CA). So yes, they are making fun of themselves. They're looking back on their lives saying "wow, we thought we were so cool... but we were so not," which everyone does that once in a while. Then, they're making fun of people that still think that way (Limp Bizkit was a good example). The girlfriend part comes in because it's kind of a small issue to kick someone's ass over, and would make the guy seem freakily
possessive. and yea the "sing another song about bashing someone's head in" references "little black backpack" and is sort of mocking himself by saying, "not only did i write one song about this, but 2? wow, i'm such a poser". Yea... basically thedarkpenguin is right. |

It's pretty simple. Just about hanging out and having a great time with a girl named Carey-Anne. It's also mentioned in "Marin", and is where my username comes from. I'm Carrie, so it's Carey-Anne without the anne. |

ok...they used to have explaination for all of the songs on "Nasty Little Thoughts" on their site, but they got deleted so this is essentially what I remember:
It came from a writing workshop and an excersise in alliteration ("Black backpack back..."). It was initially inspired by the backpack craze that was taking over Haight Ashbury (the hippie district of San Francisco, and where I happen to go to high school) in the mid-nineties. I think then it evolved into some of the explainations that you all have. |
