| Modest Mouse – The View Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this whole song is about perspectives. "The View" depends on not what you see or hear, but the events that occur in your lifetime. "Your gun went off well you shot off your mouth and look where it got you! my mouth runs on too" everyday we hear these "guns" (mouths) go off, and these people in our lives constantly talk shit. but yet we talk shit too. "shouts from both sides: 'well we've got the land, but they've got the view' well now here's the clue" like two people in a fight, each person is going to believe that he/she is the one who's "right". both SIDES believe that they've "got the land", while the other person only has "the view". both sides of the story think that they've got it all, and the other side is only able to watch. "life it rents us, and yeah, I hope it put plenty on you I hope mine did too" life basically "uses" us, and some are more lucky than others. he basically says "I hope life works out for ya, and I hope it does for me too" "as life gets longer, awful feels softer well, it feels pretty soft to me and if it takes shit to make bliss then I feel pretty blissfully" obviously, as life gets longer, we get used to the bad things that occur. all these people throwing shit at us feels "softer" everytime. and experiencing the bad in life causes us to realize how our lives are truly good. so, like I said, it's all about perspective. some people break down and become upset when people's "gun[s] [go] off" towards them. but if you can stand up for yourself, if you can take your "land" (while the others only have the view), life will feel pretty blissfully. |

| Angels and Airwaves – Heaven Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I've heard some people say that "Heaven" is such an amazing, uplifting song. it is a great song, I have to say. but for some reason, it seems really sad and upsetting. maybe I'm just in a bad mood or maybe I'm interpreting the song the wrong way... this line here : "My feet will never touch the ground Because the days they feel like ancient clocks" seems like he is in Heaven... with the feeling of weightlessness and the time not being a factor in life. and then he goes on to explain how the lights and sounds and isolation is affecting him... and that's when he says "I swear it shows Heaven must be just like this" which leads me to the idea that he thinks Heaven won't be such a pleasant place. then, he says: "Do you see the hills beneath the clouds? The stars and trails to lead you out Can you sense the pain? It's everywhere" I think he's saying that there's a way out somewhere.. of escaping death (possibly?), but this can't be found... which explains the pain everywhere. what I'm confused on is the part where he says : "Now the world will be begin.... Exactly how it ends" is this in darkness? what sort of messes up my theory is when Tom sings "are you curious?, please stay. don't go, I've got you now" |

| The Strokes – Killing Lies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think it's just me... but I see a lot more to this song. with reference to the title, it can either refer to the fact that the LIES that are being told are KILLING (awful)... OR it can mean that these lies are going on, but he wants to kill them and stop them. something's obviously going on in this relationship that causes the girl to become scared and worried. so by these lines: "You don't want trouble Well we might get some ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We might get some, It's troublesome" anyone could look at the 2 clauses and see the same words, just written twice. but actually, in the first clause, I think he's blatantly stating that the girl "brought [them] trouble" (somehow)... so they're going to "get some".... but then, this might be a stretch, but I think he's saying "we might get SOME"... as in sex. people always say they're getting some when they actually mean they're getting sex. so because they're going to have sex, "it's troublesome". but then he goes on to say "but don't you worry"... telling her not to worry, because eventually, as he later says, that these "killing lies" are recognized and eventually they are both going to go "killing lies" :) in the second verse, still, she's worried and hurried, and he's letting her know that their relationship HAS changed. he's obviously attracted to this girl, as he wants to look at her before he lets her go. but then, he goes and tells her not to worry, because she will help him. maybe by coming clean she will help him? or maybe by ending the relationship she will help them both. the then goes on to recognize these killing lies again. maybe the whole situation just means that there are lies that exist in the relationship, and they just need to come clean with each other. what I can't figure out is when he says "oh yes I notice you, you are a friend of mine"... it's hard to tell (when he screams the last line) if he really means it... that their relationship is better, OR if she's ONLY a friend, and their relationship is broken. well, that's what I think :) |

| Angels and Airwaves – Distraction Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Reckless abandon said this: "I'm not sure if I'm right... but I was thinking that in this part: "there's a field nearby, with words written in stone" means that maybe the field is a cemetary? and maybe someone has died? it's just a guess.... " I agree with that... I think that it goes like this: There's a field nearby, with words written in stone: 'my love will not die, please let it be known' I quoted the last part because, maybe, the words written in stone are "my love will not die, please let it be known"... but I also think it's a graveyard or cemetary. a cemetary is a field, and since there's a war going on in the song, it's probably nearby. and the "word's written in stone"... are the words written on the grave stone. maybe the point of the song "I'll be your distraction" is to distract a girl away from the war and away from the people who have died... just a thought. |

I love this song... the "price tags advertise your pride" part... I think it means that people wear brand names (like on their shirts) because they feel proud that they own it... which is really lame... because clothes are clothes, brand name or not. |

It seems like it's about depression, with the "medication" and "therapy". But I know that people with ADD or ADHD also "suffer from a lack of serotonin". Don't believe me? Look it up. "Racing thoughs and wasted time It's the same old story-line This is my nursery rhyme" Racing thoughts are something a person with ADD experiences and wasted time also happens, since they can't keep track of anything, including time. The same old story-line means that people with ADD seem like these things happen ALL the time, it's their whole life story. And the nursery rhyme could be related to people with ADD because often kids experience the disorder, and a nursery rhyme is said to kids, and an adult with ADD might be treated or looked as a kid. That's how I see it. Anyone else agree? |

| Motion City Soundtrack – Everything Is Alright Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I always thought this song was about ADD/ADHD. The song relates to me so much (besides for relying on "self-medication")... and I just think the qualities in this song are like an ADD person. "I'm through with these pills that make me sit still" This is a symptom of ADHD, that can be treated with pills. " 'Are you feeling fine?' Yes, I feel just fine! " OR " 'Tell me that you're alright' Yeah, everything is alright " People always ask someone with ADD is they're okay, because they seem like they don't have everything together. That's just my opinion of it. I might be wrong, but that's definitely how I see this song. |

I know that this is the 772nd comment... and that people probably aren't going to ready my opinion... AND that what I am going to say has most likley already been said. But anyways... I heard this song for the first time a few days ago, and I've been listening to it constantly (well, not 24/7, but you know what I mean) since then. It's an amazing song... it's the perfect love song. Oh how I would love to be in love like the guy loves the girl in the song. But just listening to this song, I can already imagine what it feels like to ~truely~ be in love. I can't wait until "the one" for me comes along. :-) |

wow this song doesn't have many words to it, but the context is deep "she's not the one, take note of this; hear me out i... want her, need her and you ALWAYS will pull me through" that part is most significant... it is saying that the guy knows that things probably won't work out, but later on he (purposly) contradicts himself by saying how much he wants/needs her. this shows the mixed feelings he is experiencing and shows that he is in a confused state now. when he talks about "pull[ing] me through", he is demonstrating that some person, "you", is getting in the way of his relationship between him and this girl he wants/needs. |
