The singer divorced his wife not long before writing this song. He has said that the meaning of this song is about empowerment. In a sense that’s true, because it’s clear that she left him and this song enpowers him to continue on. This song is absolutely calling his ex wife a naturally cold person who is going to do well in this cold world. The breakdown references an “oath,” which I take to mean marriage, which he said he won’t break. But she did. So this song is an aggressive letter to his ex-wife. |

Threw some chords together, the combination D-E-F Its who I am, its what I do, and I was gonna lay it down for you I tried to focus my attention, but I feel so A-D-D ^WTF?! seriously people. Listen to some real music. I'm amazed that nobody's mentioned the fact that when she says the individual letters she's playing those individual chords, "D-E-F" and "A-D-D". And then the more obvious one being Attention Deficit Disorder. I liked it. And, hyperbole? I'm pretty sure she did that on purpose. If you know what hyperbole means you're probably smart enough to say it right. My english teacher used to joke around with the pronunciations of words and she used to pronounce hyperbole just like that, hyperbowl. A hyperbole is an exaggeration, and coincidentally I remember hearing at some point today about that original hip-hop and rap tour and that they didn't use all these fancy special effects, all they used was a smoke machine. So, from there, the rest of that verse is fairly clear. I'd say it's a pretty well-written song. |

| Iron & Wine – Jezebel Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| At first I thought it was about a man loving Jezebel who left him or disappeared mysteriously, but after rereading it, it seems more like these are the dogs' thoughts, and Jezebel is their owner. She's like their mother, and she had to leave them. | |
