I was sitting down, trying to figure out what relation the title had to the song, and I came up with.. laser eye surgery. To have laser eye surgery is to have 20/20 (twenty-twenty) vision, meaning perfect vision.
Now, I don't think the song is literally about eye surgery. I think it's about him opening up his eyes and realizing that he's been, perhaps, cheated or used. "The view from this side's not what I thought it'd be." And there is all that talk about dollar signs and luxury.. |

Well. I haven’t actually heard this song. But I read the lyrics…and I really interpret it differently from the above comments. I read the lyrics and I see ‘eating disorder’ written all over it. To start, the title is called “A Scale, A Mirror And Those Indifferent Clocks”, and that’s what triggered me to read these lyrics in the first place. From my own point of view, it makes perfect sense. A scale will tell you what you do and don’t want to know (love/hate relationship), a mirror will show you visually (even if it’s distortion) and clocks are time, and we all know time is everything (waiting).
“Now I know a disease that these doctors can’t treat. You contract it the day you accept all you see is a mirror and a mirror is all it can be. A reflection of something we’re missing.”
- Automatically I thought of how difficult eating disorders are to treat. It’s not that you accept all you see is a mirror, it’s a lot deeper than that… a reflection of something we’re missing.
“And these clocks keep unwinding and completely ignore everything that we hate or adore. Once the page of a calendar is turned it’s no more. So tell me then, what was it for? “
- And it really does seem like time goes by at different paces depending on everything. Eating disorders affect everything. It can make you put things off and steal away your life… everything you hate and adore suddenly means the world and nothing at the same time. And the days tend to go by quickly when it’s all you’re focused on… it begins to be a waste of time that you can’t control. |

This is an awesome song, I love blaring it up and belting out the lyrics when I'm angry. As for the meaning, I don't really understand that whole story between the 'best friends cheating and stealing each others' girlfriends' but apparently that is what the song is about so.. I guess I'd just like to note on the line "I begin to hate you for your face and not just the things you do." I like it because it makes you realize that most of the people you hate, you focus more on them rather then what they did to make to hate them. I do that a lot. |
