| Coheed and Cambria – The End Complete III: The End Complete Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This interpretation is based on many interviews with Claudio stating that the fuel for his story comes from very real life experiences (and for better or worse, this means the concept comes second for the majority of Coheed and Cambria's songs). Simply put, this song is basically a summary of Claudio’s disappointment with Good Apollo-era marketing on behalf of Coheed and Cambria. “These are the days, the end complete. The world still turning to the sound of The Suffering. You are the jury, we are the saints.” Claudio laments that his world - his career - is only still in motion due to The Suffering being chosen as a lead single to Good Apollo, despite his preference for Welcome Home. He alludes to this scenario and his regret in the Neverender documentary, but ultimately understands the decision to market his band using the most commercial track available, despite it being on their proggiest album to date. “Our minds divide, the past repeats. A war still brewing in the hearts of those we once bled. I am the knowing, the living dead.” Good Apollo is seemingly not the first time Claudio and co. encountered resistance to their musical ambitions and creative freedoms. For the average artist, having to play by the industry’s ‘rules’ as opposed to following one’s heart is bad enough, but for bands as left-of-centre as Coheed and Cambria it would be a downright harrowing ordeal. To use the words of Travis’ wife in the Neverender documentary, the band had returned from the dead with No World For Tomorrow, and for this album, Claudio alone knew best. “Dig deeper, remember All you've been and all you've left behind. Wave goodbye, my dear. Dig deeper, remember All you've been and all you've left behind. Welcome home, my dear.” Claudio has summoned the strength to become the artist he believed he always was. This means bidding farewell to many things that brought him to the position to create No World For Tomorrow. The final “Welcome Home” reference is fairly obvious, given my interpretation. “No words to say. The worst displayed. What once was courage is now cursed in the hurt we've made. We are the sinners, before our graves.” It is widely accepted by those involved with the Good Apollo era (from management to many outsiders as seen on the Neverender documentary) brought out the worst in Coheed and Cambria. Perhaps in some way, Claudio feels all the darkness was connected to the band’s inability to get on the same page as a unit, and therefore the blame is theirs alone. The band fell from grace, and the “saints” who could do no wrong in the eyes of their “jury” were now lowly, vulnerable ”sinners”. “Now leave in peace, The dead unsafe, A world still turning down the path of the end complete, Now spite me, jury, we've come for change” Claudio understands that the only way forward is by making peace with negative influences and to chorale Coheed and Cambria together to create music that will undoubtedly be scrutinized by the jury (making judgements about absent members, resenting the difference between SSTB and NWFT). Nonetheless, this change is intentional. “GOD, He will not save you IS NOT, He will not save you HERE! He will not save you from this” To continue his “saint” analogy, there are no more supreme forces operating above the band (“God is not here”), and Claudio reminds himself that if anything should go wrong now, it’s simply because of his music and not the way somebody has strategically presented it to the public. “You’ve been stealing my lines, Now go on living your lies, For on your knees you will find, You’ll face a jury in hell.” A metaphorical version of “Hey ______, you stole the true potential from my music last time; we're doing things my way this time. Let's see which version of the band our fans like better." “These WERE the days. The end complete. The world is burning to the sound of the suffering. You are the jury, we are the saints.” Speaking of the past, the Good Apollo days nearly brought about the “end” for the band - a near-apocalyptic scenario juxtaposed with the cheery soundtrack of The Suffering, which may or may not have set this destruction into motion. “You were the magic, that turned a curse in time You were the beauty, that we had to leave behind Oh, no. No, no. Bye-bye” Perhaps at one point Claudio desired the best of both worlds with commercially viable tracks living harmoniously beside high-concept self-indulgent prog-rock tracks. But now he sees that he must ultimately choose a side he prefers over the other to protect the whole, lest he make the same mistake with trying to have his cake and eat it, too. So when it get’s right down to it, the Curse of The Radio goes bye-bye, and Claudio won’t bother to write …… any more singles. |

| He Is Legend – Best In Mexico Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I noticed this song is without any kind of interpetation whatsoever so allow me to place my 2 cents. There is something wrong with me That's why I wrote this note I've joined the writers who believe they have the antidote (This song I beleive is about a rock star and a crazed fan. In the start of the rock star's career, he joined the ranks of bands who beleived that they were going to save music during an extesential funk of music in the industry. He beleives his music will change the world) So I will go quickly now and leave breadcrumbs on the street I'll feel much better after I take my maternal leave (But in the present, the rock star, is ready to end his career. He didn't exactly change the world but he collected a fanbase, and inspired them enough by leaving music influences - breadcrumbs - for them to follow and complete what he could not. For now he wants to take his maternal leave and settle down in a nice place and retire. Lets just assume this place is Hollywood.) Let out a sign, pretend to die You're going to need an alibi A broken arm, the same smell So just relax, no one will tell (A crazed fan, who is upset that he will no longer be around to rock his world, travels to Hollywood and Beverly Hills, where he joins many other people who stalk the homes in the same fashion as a Zoo. He crticizes the rock star and cannot see that the rock star left with enough musical heirlooms that there is no need for him anymore. So the now ex-fan says that the rock star can go ahead and die out in Hollywood - because nobody is going to tell anyways that he is gone or not) That brings you down You have got to keep bringing me down It stings me all over again It's the same dream in the back of my head (The ex-fan continues that the rock stars decision for retirement is bringing him down. The fan says that the rock and roll dream in his head is to make fans happy and not to burn out when he is needed most) I've been collecting stones that I think I'll throw at you I can't forget your face (I guess the fan threated to turn violent on the rock star after he presumably declines the fan's request to reconsider his retirement) I'm sorry dear but that's my cue I'll be the first to leave And return with a ring (The rock star says that he has to go because he has plans with his fiance. A common trend I'm seeing nowadays are bands taking breaks for marriages and families) Just keep your ears open and one day you might hear me sing (The obsessed fan accepts the rock stars mistake - consoling himself with the fact that one day he will become a rock star and not make all the stupid mistakes his formor idol did. One day, the rock star will be the obsessed fan, and the roles will reverse) Lock me up, lock me up, lock me up, lock me up, LOCK ME UP! No one will know (Blast you, He Is Legend! The obligatory confusing line!.. well, taking a stab in the dark, my best guess is that the rock star called the cops and the fan hystarically begs to be locked up. As he is being taken away, the rock star shakes his head and the He Is Legend Punch Line: The rock star has the last laugh and says 'And nobody will know I've gone away? You're the crazy nobody who is getting thrown in jail - Let's see who gets remembered now') |

| He Is Legend – The Greatest Actor Alive Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Back again with number 4. To be honest, I'm starting to sound like a broken record but my best guess is that this is another tale of Hollywood tragedy. This time we are faced with the star of the song, appropriately "The Greatest Actor Alive" and the tale of his revelation. Just as light pours in the room I saw it once, it disappeared and so did you (I can see The Greatest Actor Alive coming off set into his dark trailer. After a very stressful day for this thespian, he turns to his fuel - his light that sees him through the bad times. Drugs. Living in Hollywood, he quickly became addicted to it, and has dabbled and sold to make ends meet before he became famous. While he is getting high, he sees God - but only briefly. He dissapears and so does the rest of his drugs) The morning after I will kiss your ghost Just let go (Sitting alone, he promises that he will try and talk to God again once he gets some more substances, but he wants to let it go. But how can he when he had a chance to talk to God?) "I felt safe" And she's been singing out of tune (The actor feels safe when he is on drugs. I only assume it's a he because Actor = He. The sinigng out of tune is a metaphor that means because of his steadily growing addictions it is affecting his career and he's "acting out of place" or "singing out of tune") Just then I'm "Flying to the Moon" I don't know where I don't know when but someone's gonna give me in (When he "flies to the moon" he gets high. He is worried that at one point, because he is so obsessed with his highs and filling up that big empty void, someone is gonna find him out) It's my first time writing you I pray that you can understand me Hallelujah (Trying a different approach, the actor tries writing to God. He Is Legend continues it's traditional tongue-in-cheek play on words and the actor "prays that He will hear him". Writing to God is like writing to Santa (no response), but to pray that He would hear would theoretically summon the aid of God out of his failure-of-a-letter anyways. But anyhow, The actor starts apologizing to God and asking for forgiviness) The Mourning after I'm stuck in your throat (so let go) (God says that He will forgive the actor but he has to spread the word of him in the city of Hollywood; a place where the need for God is nonexistant, and that once the word of God is "stuck in her throat" she can redeem herself for preaching to the sinners. Hollywood, to me, is coming across as a metiphorical way to portray the city where Jesus grew up - full of the wicked and sinners. Now it is the actors turn to play the role of Jesus and teach this city to change it's ways. Being The Greatest Actor Alive, he could virtually get everyones attention - one movie at a time) I left my mouth wide open (The actor is in shock) It reminds me of you choking (When somebody chokes they cannot speak, and therefore he is speechless because he has nothing to say to God) I never saw the horses when they lined beside your bed I never saw the officers but I heard what they said (Once again, it seems every He Is Legend song will stump me in one line guarenteed. I think this could just be supporting the idea of speaking to God. He isn't nessecarily seeing Him while He is speaking, but he still hears His word.) You know, I can't seem to breathe when you're here (The actor turns back to his former god - the drugs. He says that he can no longer rely on them because it would ultimately cause another downward spiral. The actor decides that he will live for God instead of materialistic things Hollywood provides) |

| He Is Legend – The Creature Walks Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Number 3 from "I Am Hollywood" - Once again we find ourselves faced with lyrics and music critiquing the creepy city of Hollywood. Can you find my angel? She crawled under the bed (I can see a distrought parent who is looking for their daughter - their angel - who left home to persue her dreams in the city of angels - I think the metaphor here is that it would be hard to find "their little angel" when she is lost in the acclaimed "city of angels"... which is a needle-in-the-haystack kind of thing - To enter Hollywood would be like crawling under your bed - a place that is dark, and unknown to most ;]) I think I saw her breathing But found out she was dead (I think at this point the parents found their daughter - but they found her doing something like prostitution or something degrading. The parents consider her another lost soul of Hollywood; in other words - dead to the modern civilized world) It is too late It is over Can't you feel these dreams (it's over) Message to the queen (it's over) The baby stops breathing (it's over) Can't you feel these dreams? It's over (So the parents start asking themselves 'Was this her dream? To be degraded and used?' But the daughter says 'message to the queen (eath to mom) - it's over - I'm not your little girl anymore) Could you call a doctor who could stop by at nine? I had planned this day for dying But now I'm feeling fine (Sarcastically, the daughter begins to lash out at her parents and asking them if they think there is a simple solution to actions that cannot be undone - a doctor can't make this better. To her parent's credit, she wasnt enthusiastic about this job either and the day she moved in was the day she died, but now that Hollywood sucked her in she feels better because people like her mean something in that city) The Creature is walking (Hollywood's newest monster is now fully independant and another drone among the city) I've got to find a new passage way I've got to get home by Saturday (Afraid, the parents wish to leave the city before teh "creatures" or citizens of the city have a chance to suck them in as well) Queen to Castle, Church to Nun What a wicked web I've spun (The mom wants to go home, and she prays to God that he can show her daughter (the nun) the right way out of this wicked web of lies and deciet she has spun) I've go to get home by Saturday So I have to find a new passage way I've got a car with no place to go "How bout a little fire scarecrow?" (The daughter laments on the fact that her parents have deserted her. Sure, she owns a fancy car in glitz-n-glam Hollywood - but she has nobody to see and nowhere to be in particular. Props to He Is Legend for their clever use of lyrics; as for the Wizard of Oz reference, your guess is as good as mine. What i see is the daughter resuming prostitution and asking a customer if he is ready for some excitement) Wake yourself up You've been dreaming again About having new friends in a ghost town (The He Is Legend Punch Line: The daughter was dreaming this entire dream. She only imagined her parents cared enough for her well-being to find her in Hollywood, and she was only dreaming about being a prostitute. She escapes to these dreams because she literally has nobody to call her own in Hollywood, or anywhere in the world) That being said, the chorus could be the daughter's concience asking her if she can feel these dreams affecting her mentality - but she argues with herself that its over, and she will never find somebody to be with. |

| He Is Legend – Eating A Book Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is the second in my HIL series - its been awhile but thats practically how long it takes to figure out what this band is on about (lyric-wise) So heres my best shot: There is a monster in my room we discussed movies over coffee And I think it's quite absurd he got hungry, licked his lips, shook my hand, and tried to eat me. And it's getting on my nerves (Well since we all should know by now, He is Legend has aimed to criticize the vast being of Hollywood. This song is no different - The "monster" is Hollywood/a media representative who just invited themselves into the lives and career of He Is Legend (or any band) - hungry to pounce upon a potential gold mine of a kickass band. But He is Legend thinks this is absurd and is not the way to be successful in the music industry - and to be frank its getting on the nerves of the band) Don't you think it's strange that I've been reading, and I still don't know how to kill you (The band asks this media representative if he finds it the least bit odd that after all the - ironically - bad press the media has been receiving from everyone critiquing thier greedy headstrong marketing schemes they still don't know how to silence this garbage) I'm trying hard not to meet you when I'm sleeping, still don't know how to kill you (The band, like many others, dream of being famous, but this is one musical group who will not dream about making it famous by selling out/changing their beleifs and style) I've got tickets to show I know no one will be attending And think that you should go (Maybe this is about how the band would rather play shows for their fans that matter for all the right reasons, even if hardly any show up) I don't mind your complexion or the fact you are bleeding It's just the way that it goes (Unsure - maybe the band likes it when people go crazy for their music and mosh/get a little bit hurt cuz thats the spirit of rock and roll? He Is Legend perhaps don't care if their fans are unorthadox because if it was any other way it would be sleazy coporate pimps and fans who only like one or two songs and like the band for the wrong reasons) I don't mind the shape your head is in I've just got to watch you explode (The band muses that they don't really care just how big the heads are of these media hound dogs. They can keep tryin to persuade and tempt them but this band is just going to keep doing what they do until the music industry explodes and cannot handle the fact that bands will hopefully decide to stop selling out and making music for the quick fix) Rock on He Is Legend! |

| Coheed and Cambria – Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Three Evils - The Torture and Death of Jesse Across the floor in the hand of where we drove the drill A cautious ear to the mouth of your confession think of all the things we put him through in the face of his god would he tell the truth? (Much like the torture of Jesus, they drove a whole into his hands, and the cautious ears were waiting for him to reveal secrets and confessions. The executioners were thinking back to all they put him through, and ponder that would the little tight-mouth even tell the truth to his? The truth being Jesse murdered, and thats a sin) still recorded were the words that dribbled out his kiss when eyes go blind in this man of what could once become (Jesse was recorded - audio or visual doesnt matter - in hopes they could play it back and look for signs or hear the confessions. His capturures comment that he could have been a man by not revealing the secrets if they promised him his life. Sadisticaly, they killed him anyways) sever the limbs off his torso in sleep and burn what remains so the world may now see no longer... (His torturers hacked off his arms and legs, and burned them so the world would never see him again) will we wait for your answers back to the hell where you've come from think of all the times you've once had write them in a letter that says goodbye (The army was waiting for him to answer their questions and interrogations, but the main factors never happened, so Jesse was sent back to hell. Jesse was probably belittled and mind-fucked by his capturers that he had such a good life before but he messed up, so all he has to do is end his life because it is so pitiful) you'll listen to reason while you're face down in the dirt (The army knows he will listen once he is face down tin the dirt where he belongs) you'll stomach the hurt and break for him here just how much he's worth (If he stomachs the pain he would "break" in their presence - The army is ashamed and wonders how much was the wretch worth anyways?) slowly discarded were the remains of his lonely youth among the alley where the dwellers scare to notice picture a young boy in pieces and streets with leveled malfunctions (The army describes to their commander just what a good job they did. Making the picture crystal clear on how he had to pay for being tight-lipped) no name to be called redeemer We'll fix him restore him...with the love is no other think of all the things you did before write them in a letter that says reborn (Im not sure but this could be about Claudio, if Jesse spilled secrets about him in his interrogation) following you across the interstate walking away...I'll fire on (They will track down Claudio) on the wrong way out on the causeway to neverwhere (They'll follow him all the way to neverwhere - a nonexistant place, meaning they'll follow him wherever he thinks he would be safe from him) dear my friends in the time we've spent forever after beyond this when will our nightmare ever end? (I think the capturers were thinking about even though they spent all this time together and bonded, how long would they have to kill all these people for a cause they think is starting to turn up ugly) pull the trigger and the nightmare stops... (suicide) |

| Coheed and Cambria – The Camper Velourium I: Faint of Hearts Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is about a conversation with Al the Killer and his trusty gun (presumabley nicknamed the Faint of Hearts). He talks to his gun because he is a psychopath who is messed in the head. Look at the facts... With the worries that I'd give her in they told the worst of me With my wanting just to hold your neck in my arms and feel me squeeze (Hold the neck of the gun and squeeze the trigger) No I'm not going to give you what you want so if you please The sin that shapes your voice carries my ears this new disease (The gun wants to kill people, and the voice is the gunshot) Did somebody take your tongue? (Bullets? You can't make "the voice" without the "tongue") In worries of the words that you couldn't say if they could've saved them from But I don't want to sleep without so I bid to you goodnight Tonight, sleep tight, my love (The gun is his love) The anxious through the calming storm you'll sit as you pray for rain (When things calm down and Al isnt killing the gun wants prays for more people to come around that will fall victim to Al) I'll touch it if you ask me to but how is up to you (He could touch the trigger, but the option wether he touches it for the better or for the worse is up in the air) No I'm not going to let you get up if you struggle willingly I'll favor all your form to show you how its been done to me (He'll touch the gun in wonderous ways as Al has been touched by other people - good and bad depending on is Al is snapping that day) With all the words you say...you'll save (Al convinces that these people - arent they young white girls or something - deserve to die beacuse he'll be safer once they lay dead) You were so well behaved As you arched and made your way This gift for you engraved The shift as you stretch your legs You were so well behaved You were so well Who taught these tricks that make...you were so well behaved (I'm pretty sure Al is just talking about what a fine gun the faint of hearts is, how its well behave and it is full of tricks and such) If the world stops turning girl you better not stop when I say If there was nothing you could do to stop it why'd you try Then the ground starts parting through the silence as you woke up the dead Everything here dies alone... (This part of the song is a small conversation Al probably had with a girl that theres nothing she can do to stop being killed, so why is she resisting him? She is going to die alone on the Valorium Camper) But I'm not quite sure what you've been told/this unfolds... On labor day I'm not starting with you but the faint of hearts (Labor day is to honor the veterans, and Al must be a retired vet-turned-psychopath. The "this unfolds" is probably sayin he became crazy on labor day remembering the war and now he is going to start with the faint of hearts to change his ways and try to fix this problem by killing young white girls - hey hes crazy) (And of course the end of the song you really hear him say "gun" instead of "love") ~Staples |

| He Is Legend – The Seduction Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Where did she go I do not know, And which direction was it snowing? I think he means trying to find her is akin to trying to figure out which direction the snow falls. I'll turn around again, Paint over pictures on the wall I can't believe she gave me alcohol I thought of Jezebel Alcohal as in "drunk off first kiss?" Jezebel could be an ex - a reason most people dont get into their relationships because they think they had it so good last time. Hung from a wrecking ball to see a fashion show I think you knew me so well I agree with the person who said this relationship was gonna crash from the start. The fashion show depicts the fancier, good side of things but would he suffer the consequences for it? Juliet you know you want it! The character (lets just say Romeo for simplicity sake) tries to convice himself that he's not losing himself over her, and that she really wants him more. I've been receiving strange phone calls from the city I will not extend my hand to the general And I do not think the people will remember us Could that be the police because he is stalking Juliet? Going to her window at night maybe.. they could be issuing a restraining order I hung from a wrecking ball to see your fashion show I think you know me well I've been jumping over buildings, I've been sleeping in the street the crazy things he's done since he's been attracted to her.. maybe sleepin outside her house? "Mr. Jones" will be right with you if you would just have a seat Well I'll meet you at the river where we both can clear our heads I think we would look great dead Doesnt the tale of Romeo and Juliet end up with both of them dying? I've got to find the princess, she's in another castle I love this mario reference.. in the game mario searches long and hard and overcomes all these obstacles but it turns out he still doesnt get the girl. Romeo can relate in this instance. But since the line says "I've got to..." that means he will keep trying. I'm dancing with the Capulet We're so "crazy in love" Juliet you know you want it! These parts of the song could also mean that Juliet doesnt like Romeo but he is trying to convice her by the end that they were meant to be regardless. |

by urbanonastick on 02-12-2005 @ 05:56:31 AM Aside from the rip-off, it's about how we'll all be punished at "the bitter end" because of whatever reasons. Also, I swear that second solo is done by a machine... just listen to it. And I've never heard or seen them play this song live. Probably because Dave can't really play it. actually, UK magazine Total Guitar released a dvd called "Meltdown" which featured Sum 41. In the video Dave plugged right in showed how the solo was played. |

| Sum 41 – 88 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
by urbanonastick on 01-08-2005 @ 01:01:36 AM I'm stuck with why it's called 88. Deryck has said that song titles come way after the lyrics are written and usually have nothing to do with the song I personally think this song is about how deryck (or whoever he was writing about) has to break up with their girlfriend because they are going through a difficult time together (I know you make mistakes) and they will end up hurting themselves. Maybe he hopes they will be together again (How long will you wait just for me to call?) but in their time apart he wants her to feel special anyways and know that things will end up alright (I hope someday you have it all) |
| Sum 41 – Some Say Lyrics | 21 years ago |
At a concert Deryck said "this song is about how grown ups just never understand" meh, good enough for me, but i also think this song is about somebody who does what they want and they always end up pissing people off, and even though everyone seems to "get it", the person just wants to do things their way and if he/she has to pay for it they don't care they learn from their mistake and live life (in their slightly miscontrewed views of life) or something.. :S |
