connor is very experimental, you can't hate him for that. i thought the introduction of the duet in this song was perfect for the message behind the song. it goes to show how beauty can be made out of awkward things. i like the sc50 version for it's own uniqueness and i think this version just goes to show the broad spectrum of connor's musicianship. |

i don't think the last part has anything to do with connor's belief in god or afterlife. it is used more to show emphasis on how empty things are. if you look at the things he talks about (art, old love, status, new love, the status quo of living, and then religion) he's trying to make a statement of how everything that people do really has no sort of meaning to him because he feels no matter how hard he tries, he can't attain it. by saying "absent" with god, he's not saying his belief in god is not there, but rather that because of how he is on the inside, he is empty to god. "But when I lift my voice up now to reach them, the range is too high way up in heaven" signifies this because he's saying that all the people who have voices like "angels" are able to reach a person because the emptiness has not reached them yet. |
