This is totally a drug song. It's one of my favorite Libertine songs. Pete is being so honest.
He's basically talking about his addiction and self destruction. The people that he cares about who he has let down as a result. The fact that he has a problem is too much to handle so he pretends it doesn't exist. After pushing his friends away the only people he is surrounded by are "bad people" that don't really give a shit about him. |

"i think he would kill a man the fuckin smackhead"
Wow, just because Pete has an addiction doesn't mean the guy is a bad person. I think desperate is a more appropriate word. Considering the fact that his life is a trainwreck I'd say he's making some really great music. He has his own style and he obviously has songwriting skills. I just really hope he pulls through this and doesn't die. He's really talented. |

She Said, She Said wasn't about Peter, I think it was one of those situations where you're hanging out with someone and they say something that sounds good and it's like "thank you, I think I'll use that." Besides, John didn't even like Peter. As for this song, who knows!? I think it's about a girl. |

My take on it is when you feel programmed to be depressed. When you're world isn't ugly and you're actually feeling somewhat good about yourself you tend to look for reasons to be depressed "taking the world upon your shoulders" and it becomes a habit. |

I think Daniel is talking about the period of time in which he and Natalie split up. Where do I get that from? I guess the "she takes no other" thing. Bottom line is I think it is about his love for her and the fact that he will continue to love her even when they are apart. I get the feeling these two are really in love and I'm in love with them for being in love! LOL |

This is a really sweet love song. His girlfriend or crush is having a hard time dealing with life and maybe memories of a guy that broke her heart. He thinks that if he sings to her that will take all her pain away. Sooo sweet! I love donovan |

I don't normally like love songs. They're often a little "too much" you know? Too needy, too fluffy or too desperate but this one is just gorgeous. I love the lyrics! My favorite love song. |

I love this song! I think everyone can relate. It's kind of about all of the contridictions that you feel, all of the confusion and depression. I wish I wrote this song!! :) I love the line "when everyone is a cynic" |

No one has commented on this song!! It's totally different from anything I've heard before. I love it. Not sure what the lyrics are all about. Maybe a little bit about Daniel's illness? |

I sort of think that there is some cheating going on. I don't know if she is with him and he is cheating on her ("I'll pretend that I dont know of your sins") or if he is cheating on his girlfriend with her. Still, I get the "cheating vibe" from this song. I don't think it is a sad love song. I think that she is just willing to be there for this guy through whatever problems he is going through. I think that's what love is you know, when you can give your heart to someone and not ask for anything back in return. |

Maybe this song had something to do with A.) Superficial, materialistic people with way too much money on their hands like Vixy said or B.) Maybe it's about America. Whenever I hear it I can't help but think he was taking a stab at us. If you listen to it with that in mind it kind of makes sense. Who knows? It's a good song. |

I think everyone is on the right track with this song. Of course I'm not the lead singer and I didn't write the song but I think we've all got the right idea. Yeehaaa!
The first bit is that he is calling to checkup on an ex-girlfriend's life. It implies that perhaps she has moved away. His motive for calling her is mainly to check up on her sex life and he’s hopeful that there’s nothing going on in that department. Obviously he still has some feelings for her otherwise, why would he care? Why bother? He knows that she has issues or like "emotional baggage" from their relationship and that she still has feelings for him as well. The whole thing is uncomfortable for him considering how they feel about each other and he wants to bury all of the uncertainty of their scared relationship and their forced friendship so that he wont have to deal with it anymore. During the conversation she tells him all about her new life since she’s moved/the relationship ended. She has a man (or men) in her life and they are treating her well (gluing tinsel to your crown) but our guy does not buy it. She claims that she is still in love with the narrator but what can they do about it? She has a swell "new life" and even though he knows it's best to leave their relationship behind (and a part of him wants to) he finds it difficult. The last verse is my favorite and I think that everyone that has explained that verse on here has got it. |
