| I'm not entirely sure why but to me this song seems to be about drug addiction. It sounds like he and a girl/his girlfriend started out messing around with stuff ("even time well spent gets bent...") and at some point she gets in over her head ("since then you never come clean...") and he's trying to be there for her and he's saying hit me with the worst of it, i'll still be there to help you out of this ("lay all you want on me..."). | |

| i agree that he's saying don't change for me, i love you the way you are. but i also think that there's more with the whole "skin and bones" bit. he seems to be talking about some sort of eating disorder that his girl has. he's worried about her and says "don't push it baby" and "i love just the way you are" to get her to feel better about herself and get better. | |

oh my god i love this song it only took thirty seconds of this to convince me to actually go out and buy the cd (which i am happy i did) this is definately one of the sweetest songs ever. it's just telling someone that you care for them and that they could never be too much work to care about no matter what anyone else says it's both classic rob thomas and new/different. eee. i love it. |

last year this song basically kept me sane when i was really starting to lose it, of course being me, it seems like he's singing about me i think my idea of it might be quite a bit different because i wasn't all too with it at the time i grew attached to it, but this is what it means to me: there is this girl that he sees lost in a world she doesn't want to be in and she wants to get out of where she is. he realizes this because he's been through it before and he's trying to tell her that he will be there for her and do anything/be anything she needs and if she hurts him he won't let her now so she won't get upset and not to give herself up for other people's wants. |

i had this whole idea of what this song meant and what i was going to write and then i got here and everone had the same idea...meh. i agree especially with sk8ter88 cause that was what i mostly thought. or just in general a guy telling his friend that this girl he's in love with will never really love him because she's always going to want something different or better or something. and the way that he knows this is he was once in a relationship with her...but you've all already said this so.... |
