| Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A version) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
just a beautiful, deep song. it reminds me of MLK on U2's Unforgettable Fire. on the subject of U2, this album bears striking resemblance to All That You Can't Leave Behind. not musically, but both bands were trying to reinvent themselves, and (even though both albums were realeased a year before the event) could be telling the story of September 11 (i'm not saying this is true, i'm saying you can put it in that context). i'm not going to go into details, but Everything Is In Its Right Place is the workers, just having a normal day, Kid A is when the first plane hits the north tower, The National Anthem is when people in the buildings (and the media) realise they have been attacked, How to Disappear Completely is denial of the people in the buildings, Treefingers is the south tower being hit and the north one collapsing, Optimistic is two people, one hoping for the better, one understanding he is going to die, In Limbo is general panic in the south tower, Idioteque is denial, Morning Bell is realisation, and Motion Picture Soundtrack is final acceptance and death, with the hidden track being their entrance into the afterlife. also, whereas Kid A would deal with the people in the towers, ATYCLB would deal with the rest of the public, who had lost family, friends, and fellow americans. just one way of applying it. |

| Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics | 20 years ago |

no this song is not about drugs. you just can't quote one or two lines or use whole stanzas to prove your point. even quoting line by line is a little iffy. i think the only posts you really need to read are Jon Beulter (pg.2) and FrankyBkk (pg.3&4). i also think that Screech (pg.5) and Fleeting Thoughts (pg.7) did a really good job, although i don't agree with them. also, due to computer errors, i couldn't read page 6, so that might have some good stuff. anyway, even though this two things could not be based off each other, and this is deffinitely not what this song is written about (mainly due to a 15 year gap), i think this is the perfect song to describe Stephen King's Dark Tower, the God-like structure in the Dark Tower Series, but is only actually seen in the Dark Tower, the seventh and final book in the series (please excuse the repetitiveness and the length of this sentence) i think this song is a lot more fitting than Elton John's Someone Saved My Life Tonight (major song in book series). for example the voices the character in the song hears are like the voices that call Roland to the Dark Tower. there are also many other coincidences, but they would give away the ending. |

| U2 – Numb Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| not to sound stupid, but what does the song being 4 minutes 20 seconds long have to do with anything? anyway, one of my favorite 90's U2 song. The Edge does a great deadpan monotone. i agree with FelipeVox, probably about power in the media. | |
| Pink Floyd – Have a Cigar Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| one of the themes of the album is corruption and changes for the worse. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is about the loss of Syd and his drug addiction, and this and Welcome to the Machine is about how corrupt the music industry is. Wish You Were Here is about how much the opposite of all other songs on the album, trying to show Syd and the mysic industry how bad they've gotten. also the transition into Wish You Were Here is just one of the coolest things i've ever heard. | |
| Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| P.S. gotohellolemiss thats basically wat i was tryin to say about the song | |

the thing i love most about this song is how clearly Waters sings the lyrics. in Dark Side, there is usually accompianment, or he is a little bit in the backround. in the Wall and the other songs on the album, he tries to show the moods of Pink and the other characters by changing his voice a little bit. however, for this song, the vocals and lyrics are, in my opinion, the most important part of the song and the best i've heard Waters do. anyway, i think the you need to look at the whole album to interpret the song (the song order is Shine On You Crazy Diamond pt. 1, Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, W.Y.W.H., and Crazy Diamond pt. 2). it is deffinetly (spelling) about Syd. what i interpret as what happens in the album is kind of a short story of Syd's life in music. Its a flashback, so the first thing you hear about his muscial dreams (Diamond pt. 1). when he finally does cut a deal, he learns that the whole industry is being controlled by some sort of conformity (Machine). it turns out that he is really great, so he gets signed to a ignorant, corrupt record producer (Cigar). eventually, Syd joins in on the corruption (its not really clear what the corruption is, but it is probably a mixture of greed, drugs, and pride), and is changed. his old friends/Pink Floyd try to show him where he went wrong and how bad he's become (W.Y.W.H). eventually he just drops out and is forgotten, yet not by his old friends (Diamond pt. 2). at least thats the gist of it. NOTE: please don't blame me if this seems like complete crap, i thought it up in a coulpe of minutes. |

| The Who – Old Red Wine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| im amazed nobody posted when there were already six posts on Real Good Looking Boy when i checked. lyrics a little stupid, but besides that, i'll have to congradulate them. the songs about appreciating something way past its prime. Pete was referring to himself and Roger, who must be somewhere in their sixties by now. still, a great job. | |
| The Who – Real Good Looking Boy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| when i first heard the song (about 5 minutes ago), i misheard the lyrics, thought the song was completely different, and considered the song really stupidly sappy. but after reading them now, turns out i was completely wrong. went the littlest bit commercial, but i was amazed at how well the music was, after such a long break, and minus entwhislte and moon. roger and pete lost little talent over their break, and pulled it off finely. | |
| The Who – Love, Reign O'er Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| also, why did the writer put (Pete's theme) at the beginning of the lyrics? | |
| The Who – Love, Reign O'er Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| just finished listening to quadrophenia for the first time OMG ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS I HAVE EVER HEARD. nearly every song is great, its creative, and its entertaining. love the puns throughout the album (can you sea/see the real me; love rain/reign o'er me; those are the ones i found). i think i kinda understand the ocean references now: the character, Jimmy, guess, has kind of an ebbing and changing personality, but what he really wants to be (and i guess achieves at the end) is a stable rock, who can endure the pounding sea and rain (making this up off the top of my head so stick with me). about the song, i guess tryin to redo the emotion they put into Listening to You, and did a pretty good job of it too. i have a Quadrophenia shirt, but i wore it a lot before i downloaded this album so now i feel really bad about myself. looks like im goin to have to see the movie now! ;-) | |
| The Who – Bell Boy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the only reason i knew it was keith singing is because of the uncle ernie scenes from Tommy. | |
| The Who – Sea And Sand Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i'm pretty sure he makes out with the girl by the ocean in this song. don't know why there are so many sea references in this album though. | |
| The Who – Helpless Dancer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| yea, listining to it for first time and can clearly see there are mistakes | |
| The Who – Quadrophenia Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| listening to album for first time, and plot a little hard to follow, so i am looking up lyrics to see if that will make it easier to follow. really good though, only a quarter through and one of my favorite albums already. also, i looked up quadrophenia in the dictionary. found quadrophenic, and it means sounds from 4 different points. bassically, the sound of four. | |
| U2 – Vertigo Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| 1 more thing - learn2kneel & diiksen, you are brilliant | |
| U2 – Vertigo Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| just read what dc dude said, that kinda helps me out, but Unforgettable Fire came after War (3rd album) | |
| U2 – Vertigo Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
dont know why im posting this it will probably never be read. this song has almost the same bass line as A Sort of Homecoming. dont know why U2 would reuse something that they haven't used for about 15 years |
|
| The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| person in the songs reminds me of the Randall Flagg character in some Stephen King books. has like 3 different names, evilly sarcastic, and been around forever (i think) | |
| U2 – A Sort Of Homecoming Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| vertigo has the same bass line almost the same baseline as this. i wonder what drove u2 to use a riff that they hadn't used for 15 years. | |
| U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i was really tired when i wrote that so dont blame me if it sounds crazy | |
| U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
BEST U2 SONG EVER. everything is amazing about - lyrics, vocals, instrumentals, everything. i could hear a version where MLK and this are connected, though, which would sound cool. also i think that guitar between the organ-synthesyzer-thing and the rest of that song could just hang by itself for 1 or 2 seconds. i think it is heaven + street thing + ethiopia. i guess bono was saying that equality can only take place where everyone truly needs each other (starving country) or heaven. so then bono is comparing this awful place to a kind of heaven-in-progress (unless ethiopia is one of the countries with all the civil wars) that can only be achieved if everyone works together to help each other out. although, i do think of utah and colarado and the mojave(?) desert when i think of this song. the album does have a country feel, and the joshua tree only grows in the mojave(? its the desert that goes into parts of nevada, colorado, utah and mabye california) |

| Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
a. its not about scuicide. if you read what most other people have said they have actual proof that its not. b. i think we can stop mentioning the SNL skit now. its gotten old c. and i still think the stand is a really good fantasy/horror book. one of stephen king's best. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Bron-Y-Aur Stomp Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
kickass song. some of the best guitar playing i've ever heard. bass drum adds a nice beat and those beat changes (do they change or just get a mixed up for a little bit? i can't tell) are so cool. i thought it was about a girl just because i misheard the lyrics. thought it was blue eyed girl, not merle, and old shit, not shep. stairway sucks at the beginning but gets progressively better and the ending rocks (literally)(dumb joke) |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Bron-Yr-Aur Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| is this just bron-yr-aur stomp without the lyrics? | |
| U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
aw, i missed the poinless argument. and only by months, too anyway, i think the album has to be looked at as a whole. if so, the album is about a made-up war and sunday bloody sunday is sort of a warning. bono is asking "why are you starting this in the first place? dont you remember bloody sunday? how long do we have to remind you (how long must we sing this song?) ?" something slightly irrelevant, though: how many people have read stephen king before? and if you did how many of you have read one that takes place in Derry, Maine? (Dreamcatcher, It, Insomnia) basically, derry is a really messed up town that has been attacked by a shape-changing monster (It), invaded by aliens (dreamcatcher), and visited by the Crimson King (insomnia). at least i think. ive only read dreamcatcher out of those three. |
|
| Bald Vulture – Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2 cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| never heard the song. never even heard the band, but aparently they were U2 fans | |
| U2 – 40 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
so thats where the name comes from anyway, the entire war album is about a, you guessed it, war. probably fictional, but may be based on real one. this is kind of an, "i told you so" where sunday bloody sunday was a warning to never start this war. bono says that good people in general (or mostly christians) have to keep reminding people of (sappy moral time) evilness of violence and fighting. still cool song, sounds Unforgetable Fire-ish. |

| The Who – Eminence Front Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| also, Rider - where is that from? i bet i kno it but i forgot | |
| The Who – Eminence Front Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| what opinionhead said, except i think it has to do how people ignorantly forget all the small details about life. at least part of it is | |
| The Who – Won't Get Fooled Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think more of 1984, another good George Orwell book. The beginning and very end is more like Animal Farm, though. I'm still wondering about what i posted on Baba O'Reily why so many people who like the Who also like Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd. |
|
| The Who – 1921 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| but what goes on in this song? why wont they let tommy tell the truth? (or whatever happens) | |
| The Who – Baba O'Riley Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
how many people besides me realised that most a lot of the people here are also led zepplin fans and pink floyd fans? is it because they are some of the greatest bands of the 70's? they have very different songs (even though the synth in this song is floydish). also, Bodester - that was the most stupidly hilarious thing in my life. fell over laughing. |
|
| Pink Floyd – Outside the Wall Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| WHOA, I TYPED THAT MUCH? I HAVE TO LEARN TO SERIOUSLY SHUT UP. | |
| Pink Floyd – Outside the Wall Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
first, don't rip on me because of my name. i heard this album after i became a member of songmeanings and just decided to keep the old name. floyd, zepplin, and u2 r my favorite bands. ok, i haven't seen the movie yet, but this is my take on the album. many people try to shut themselves in from reality, because reality is too painful, or boring. whether its with video games or being politicaly correct, reading or ignorance, everybody does it. we try to put a wall around ourselves and the truth. within this wall anything is possible, you be anyone you want, do anything you dream of, sleep with anybody you want. however, over time, things begin to get distorted. everything becomes more distorted, until you lose your mind and tear down that wall. you realise how the world really is, a place of love and hatred, a place of birth and death. over time, this is accepted. unfortunatly, it is human nature to repeat his mistakes, and the wall is rebuilt again. also, if you know about the big bang, some scientists predict that the universe will come together in a mega black hole called the big crunch. some of these scientists even say that the mega black hole will explode into another big bang, and this will continue into infinity. P.S. has Stephen King ever heard this? i've read 5 of his books and they crept me out the same way as hearing this for the first time did. read The Stand, it so SO F-ING GOOD. (and long)(but its worth it)(even though im only halfway through)(The Talisman is also good, and not as scary as his other books)(man i type too much) |
|
| Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
don't get mislead by my name, i love tons of bands. i just thought this name sounded cool. anyway, i have to agree with what hallfast said. well written and has good points. also what inspired me to listen to this song was both the SNL skit and the book The Stand by Stephen King (in the intro). both very good and highly recommended. P.S. but don't watch the movie The Stand. i heard it sucks. |

| Bowling for Soup – 1985 Lyrics | 21 years ago |

| U2 – Elevation Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| P.S. somebody please send that little bastard "sic n twisted" a virus or a worm or something like that. if you click on his name you get his e-mail adress | |
| U2 – Elevation Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
tomb raider did a remix of this song. almost no difference, though. the videos on the dvd and its pretty good. anyway, this song is kind of a pick-me-up after zooropa and pop. bono really questioned his faith in god and religion in those two albums (especially pop). in this, walk on and beautiful day, he is saying that god isnt an ultimate superbeing, but part of life and consciousness itself. i seriously hopes this makes sense |
