New Haven love and adoration here. Everything decays. Everything has a gilded age, and everything inevitably fades. Even the love that these two thought they had nailed down. There's no one to blame, really, it's just the way it is. The way it ends. Just like those big old houses on Howe Street. |

A Stolypin car is a windowless police wagon, used in Soviet Russia for carting arrested folks away to jail. Chechnya is a disputed former Soviet republic and current Russian province trying (via terrorism) to gain independende). And this is perhaps the most romantic Mountain Goats song that I can think of. |

This always feels to me like the classic \"just friends\" song... some girl\'s got a \"just a friend\" guy that she keeps around, but he really loves her, though she just doesn\'t like him \"that way\" - and once again, there\'s a hunky, cool guy on the horizon for her, and she\'s swept off her feet. The friend maintains, though, that he\'s \"wrong for her\", and there\'s no way that this johnny-come-lately could ever love her as much as he does. Unfortunately, as often happens in these situations, she isn\'t listening. (This is just a wonderful song - the tune is fantastic, and the lyrics are just very endearing. I like the narrator; I don\'t think he sounds controlling or boring so much as nerdy and a little desperate.) |
