also i didn't immediatly realize that ben is writing from the females perspective. though it seems so obvious now. This song is amazing and I hope it comes out again, with full instrumentation. |

| Jimmy Eat World – Table For Glasses Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
sweep the dirty stairs - bring the dirt up from the past the ones i waited on - long time doing nothing this is just for me - i need to reflect i felt it watching her - this is how it was for me and it happens to fast to make sense of it - memories are imperfect make it last - and they fade where do you intend to go with dirty dress - what now? lead my skeptic sight to the table and the light - let me dissect what has happened in the past and remember not asking of me anything - just recalling with out guidance saying nothing about what it means - recalling what happened with out explaining it with out anybody telling me what i should feel - creating his own interpretation of past events without anyone elses infuence |

if you have "you can play these songs with chords" it says in the cd booklet that this is the only dcfc song without ben as the lead vocalist. I think this song is awesome though many dismiss it as a cheap through away song. "i quit sending postcards cause no on knew what to (revere/read in). The mailman cant come in to explain." come on thats funny. it may or may not have some reference to mr. rogers or something like that but its a pretty cool line. |

| The Postal Service – Nothing Better Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| if the goalie bit is about lacrosse it makes little sense as well because in the 3rd quarter the game would still be up for grabs. lacrosse is a very high scoring game. not to say that the goalie wouldn't be trying just that it would be better if he said 4th quarter... or soemthing | |

| "this time its on my own" most of the songs on clarity were written by jim for a solo project, but then adopted by jimmy eat world when it didnt pan out. | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Crush Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Its awesome that people are still talking about this song and others on this album. I just got into this song when i read the lyrics and understood what he said in the first line. Its everything that you want to hear in a rocking pop song or even a song in general. Its unpretentious and straightforward but deep and indefinable. I always thought that simple discourse breaks you clean in half part meant that just speaking to this person blows you away. FunFact that may be common knowledge to JEW fans, i don't know, but did you know that most Clarity was written for a toned down solo project that Jim planned on doing. When the rest of the band liked the songs they recorded it as Jimmy eat world. This is why tom doesn't sing as much as on Static Prevails. |

| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I read almost everyone of these comments and no one thinks that it may have something to do with going away to college/university? Even that guy who said he went to school in DC didn't mention it. What made me so confident that the song was about visiting an old girlfriend that had gone away for school is that the part about wearing the badge telling her new friends that he was impermenant. When you go to school in a new city there is a period where you meet a lot of new people and the narrator is not someone to really get attatched to. I'm sure I've seen stickers that say "I am a VISITOR here." A lot of other explanations made sense to me too though. I have no real thoughts about "smeared black ink" except that it was a personal observation of the girl, maybe writing.... doing homework.... ok maybe not. As for the only thing keeping me dry... ok this is a stretch, but in dorm rooms you are only aloud to drink inside the room and once you enter the hall you are not aloud open alcohol. A more feasible explanation to me would be the crying thing or maybe he means that the only thing keeping him from leaving is that its raining? Note* its ok to say that you love the song but can you atleast try to put some thought into its meanings. it took a long time to scroll through all that pointless stuff |
