I agree. There are women whose main goal isn't to get married/settle down as soon as possible. Being independent isn't the same as being bitter.
The song, and video especially, portray the idealized vision of "settling down" that young girls have and how, that desire to settle down with someone...regardless of if they're the one for you or not...isn't the pretty picture they envision. |

coastal bird...I got the same impression as you...but then again, I just got dumped and feel that way sooo....I dunno if it's my mind doing that or whatever....but then again, isn't that the point of a song? The artists writes a song with their own meaning but it's open for the listener to fit it into their own life? *shrugs* |

this song--to me anyways--is about a person who feels so completely hopeless that as they pray they laugh as in thinking...it's even ridiculous for God to want to help them. The line "won't somebody love ME for a start...I'm laughing as I pray" always makes me cry because to that person that request is so absurd that even they start laughing at themselves.... |

I've always seen this song as an older/elderly man sitting alone in his house singing out about his wife who passed away. He's saying that while he's lonely he can just think about the times they had together and her voice when she'd sing.....but yeah it's definitely one of my favorites. |
