John Mayer – Something's Missing Lyrics 21 years ago
Oh yea, I forgot to add....

A little literature comparison....(and relavent to my previous post)....this song beautifully parallels the book of Ecclesiastes (written by the wisest man ever to live!). Give it a read. You'll be surprised.

John Mayer – Something's Missing Lyrics 21 years ago
1) I think it's interesting what TokenwithDave said. I certainly can't argue with him over the meaning of the song if he said that's what John said it means. But I'll be very fast to argue at least for two meanings of the song, then. Because there's some lines that just DON'T fit with that latter interpretation, but fit perfectly with the obvious one of not being satisfied (i.e. the reference to loneliness, dissatisfaction with material goods: shopping mall reference, battery reference, checklist).

2) Does anybody have any insight on the meaning behind the autumn verse? I think it's BEAUTIFUL imagery - one of my favorite John Mayer lines, but I don't know what the imagery stands for. And yea, I don't know what the heck stacilovesdmb was talking about. The line is DEFINATELY "it walks in where it left you last". Where the heck did she get evascenciate from? Oh well. It's ok. No big deal.

3) A lot of people will disagree with me on this (as they already have expresses their opposition). I'm sure John Mayer wasn't writing this song with Christ in mind. But iit's very striking, indeed, that every Christian, without even verbal communication, can look each other in the eye after hearing these lyrics and know exactly why John feels this way. There are plenty of people who will gladly and loudly voice their opposition, but does anyone find it intriguing that Christians (ones who are serious), uniformly can express utter content? Even on the posts for this song, out of a total of 14 posts, there are 3 who say that Jesus fills one's contentment, 4 who don't address it either way and SEVEN who say their lives aren't or never will be satisfied, even though they may have all sorts of materials, skills, blessings, etc (I figured I had the license to include the "lol@jesus" comment in that stat). Does anyone begin to become intrigued when they realize that every person who clings to Christ can claim utter content? I can tell you right now, strip me of my materials, my friends, my blessings, but let me keep my Bible, and I will be content. In fact, sometimes I get upset at how materials and other things get in the way. We Christians may be stereotyped as unintellectual, emotionally-dependent fools. But are we content?

YES.

So those of you who realize you're not content, have you ever even sought Jesus? SINCERELY? Before you are ready to claim us as a load of crap, prove it with your own experience first.
