Death Cab for Cutie – Blacking Out the Friction Lyrics 21 years ago
i think he's talking about moving in this song, but i think it applies to any sort of major change you make in your life expecting a new perspective. the change has to come within yourself, so i think that was just his poetic way of saying it's brainless to change the outside when you need to change the inside.

i definitely think when he says "girlie magazine" he means porn. they are often called girlie magazines, and people turn to porn often to make themselves feel less lonely, not knowing that it certainly wont help.
but this song is amazing, as all of us know.

Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics 21 years ago
underthemoonifly, i disagree with you on some of those interpretations, but mostly the one about the grey metal reflecting them and making them seem like giants. do you know how small the back seat of a sub-compact is? can you imagine having sex in one? it would be very small compared to the size of two bodies, hence the "looking like giants in the back of my grey sub-compact".

Death Cab for Cutie – For What Reason Lyrics 21 years ago
crap. i meant to post that thing on the "lack of color" page. craaaaaap.

so now, about this song. haha. "brace yourself: i'm bent with bitterness" is an amazing line, and i think it needs no explanation.

in response to mnichols0630: the postal service...ben gibbard does not play the guitar and drums...chris walla of dcfc does. maybe live ben might play, but when recording, chris writes the guitar and drum parts.

now about this song: it's one of my favorites, because it is such an enigma. parts are so subtle, but it is so straightforward at the same time. how much more clear can "i shouldve given you a reason to stay" be? not much.
