I don't know...this song has always perturbed me. I believe the first 2 verses are about Kozelek...but then the last! Maybe he killed a girl when he was 19? Confession perhaps! If it's metaphor...of what? Sounds pretty straight forward. I think its just weird personally. Still one of my favorite albums of all time though. |

well said matie. I bought this album when it came out in Sept. 2003. I listened to back to back 3 times...with headphones on. I have never done that in my life. I believe that album -"Ghosts of the Great Highway"- takes you somewhere you have never been...between the past and present...between warmly smile with friends and crying all alone. Never has an albums made me feel as such. Kudos to the whole band...and what a great production. I recommend the headphones! |

This song is like a tasteful version on "Ironic"..and don't get me wrong, I love Damien Rice's music. But it is full of paradoxical statements. Love is this way is it not. I think Damien has been through some seriously bad relationships...and he's very sensitive obviously...and he finds a way to express that emotion through his music. |

I believe this song is about lust and possiblilty at arms length. I think perfectly placed in "Closer"...a movie about the deranged and morbid love often found in the world. Having one thing, but obsessing over another...one you cannot have...one that's not possible. A lolita would also be a good example. This song is dark and haunting...yet so beautiful. That's what gives it the power. Leave it to the Irish. |
