Arcade Fire – Intervention (Original version) Lyrics 19 years ago
I love how the same song sounds completely different here. This seems more reflective, even the way he sings it, almost like an old man...

The soldier's woe or the sound he makes as he dies (Hear the soldier groan) as the US embarks upon the unilateral use of force (We'll go at it alone)

Martin Grech – Guiltless Lyrics 19 years ago
Brilliant song. Both musically and lyrically. To me, it sounds as if Martin is talking about innocence lost. 'Guiltless' implies the pure, untainted young child, who remains untarnished by 'stigma'. But this pure entity will inevitably fall victim to the 'evils' of life.

taste of purest roses
you cut me and it feels good
i felt the breath of stigma
like every little boy should

This verse sets the scene for childhood- perhaps 'cut me and it feels good' renders a double meaning, not just the masichistic/sensual sense but also the way a baby's umbilical cord is cut so that he/she becomes an independent human being. 'Feel the breath of stigma/Like every little boy should' - this could relate to puberty? The first instance of stigma corrupting youth.

The chorus is my favourite part of the song, listing the various vices/virtues of life- alchemy - experimentation of drugs, loyal- an endearing 'good' quality to family and friends, sensual- the development of sexual feelings, holy- faith/religion, debauchery, fortune, godly, joy- all these connote the fluctuating nature of life- what emotions/actions we humans embark upon.

The last part about his father is poignant- an undermining figure who calls his son a failure, blaming 'destiny'- like other posters said, this is the most powerful part of the song.

Eminem – Like Toy Soldiers Lyrics 21 years ago
well the same can be said about alot of things rev, i mean look at who the oscars have gone to in the past, did titanic deserve more awards than Lawrence of Arabia? the same goes for music awards- not everyone is going to be satisfied that the award-winning artist is truly worthy of the award...

Jonah's Oneline Drawing – 14-41 Lyrics 21 years ago
omg, why has nobody discussed this awesome song?!
truly genius, i reccommend the acoustic version (which is impossible to get for some reason). It just says it all, ageing-that cruel process from youth to incontinence- just proves how life is the ever deteriorating, everyday getting nearer to popping our clogs, and why the fuck do we celebrate birthdays with such joy?
'you're all those things and then you're none' -jeez ppl, wake up!!!! how can u NOT comment on such a blunt thought provoking line??! we are all those things we think are so important and then we just fucking end! i mean isnt that like the ultimate!?? oh its sooo depressing but so goooooooood!!!!!!!
I also get some cryptic vibe about this song; 14-41, like the UN resolution re: invasion of iraq?! obviously just a coincidence, but makes it somewhat more poignant and... hell why should i explain myself, i mean nobodys going to reply to this anyway so yes, i hold it as VERY poignant and VERY IMPORTANT! HA! well, forgive me for not explaining myself...ok...im rambling now, erm need caffeine...gdnite, wow this is like im self-monologuing now..
toodles,
P
