| Damien Rice – Me, My Yoke and I Lyrics

I saw a video where Damien says that the song is about a "friend" who one day found something flopping between his legs and when he found out what it was for, he felt so guilty that he prayed daily to god.
What I find fascinating about the song is that it's played by sliding from A minor to the 10th fret, then F major to the 10th fret, which is that cool slide. But if you watch it, it looks like he's jerking his guitar. Given Damien's fascination with sex and his confusions with it, I don't think this is an accident. |

Clearly about his own solo career.
Such a beautiful take on going solo. The pain of leaving behind a group of people who had such a vision, not understanding where that vision got lost or why you can't make art together anymore. This song had a lot of meaning to me when my last band broke up. |

According to Dan Boeckner, Spencer writes his songs from the point of view of a character. In this case, he writes it from the view of a twelve year old girl.
I keep thinking about it, and I can't see what he sees. Spencer is one crazy guy. |

God this song is awesome. Louis XVII is my surprise bad of 2005. I thought they'd be a joke, but they gave the Hot Hot Heat a run for their money in Edmonton. Rock on boys. |

I'm pretty sure this is about sending your kids to Vietnam. It might just be the type of music... retro, garage rock, but it really reminds me of it. Maybe the effects of having a Nam Vet for a parent? |

I'd say this song is about a man who left his girl and asked her to stay around for him, but she cheated on him... overthrowing him... and he doesn't know about it and doesn't suspect it and is just going about it, but she's caught the "fever" of feeling guilty about it. |

makes a bit of sense, helix noon, but to me this song is always just an exceptional love song.
there's something about yorn's voice which just adds so much emotion to the song. it really makes you feel whatever emotion he's trying to convey with the song, and from this song i get a strong sense of longing and love, like he just wants to tell this girl he loves her IE "i want you to know" |

this is a wicked love song. wish he HADN'T said "green eyes" cause my girlfriend has brown eyes... and i wanted to dedicate this to her at one of my band's shows... oh well. lol. i'll do it anyway... no-one will notice if I say brown eyes, right? |

I took this song as being about an abusive relationship. The person being abused doesn't like it, but they can't get out of the relationship because they still love the abuser. the abuser keeps "[losing] control"... kinda makes sense. definately weird lyrics... but a good song. |

I think this song is about the military. An officer who wants to get out but can't, and for every poor bastard he recruits he feels bad because he knows he's making their life into hell. |

| Dire Straits – Money For Nothing Lyrics

yah they overheard a conversation about guys complaining about how it isn't real work to be a rock star and wrote a song about it, using quotes from the conversation.
The deal at the time was that all these bands would say "i want my MTV" for a commercial gig, so the dire staits (yes, it is "straits") decided to make a bit of a crack at that. |

I took it as a couple which went on a sort of... daring date "down to the waterline" where they were not allowed by law to be. The excitment of the danger and the presence of the man she was with has engraved the night into the woman's memory and "she can still hear him whisper..." |

I'd say it's about a baby who died... i don't like to think it's about an abortion, because of that line "...for a child that's come and gone today." Really great song by a really great band. |
