| Against Me! – 8 Full Hours of Sleep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
When I hear this song I imagine a man thinking about the opposite position from what he's in. He's homeless, hungry and lonely. Maybe he had a wife but lost his money resulting in him losing his wife and he ended up on the street. He imagines though (in a dream) that all of that would be changed.. and because the new day brings hope, he just want's to get through one bad night so that in the morning he can change things. Sounds good to me. |

| Neil Young – Southern Man Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I wonder what students out west are taught. The textbooks in the north and south differ, which is easy to see after reading all of these comments.. I mean it isn't just textbooks, it's also growing up in a certain area and being proud of where you're from. That's why I'm just curious about what the west is taught. As for the people from England saying, "there are two classes in America: rich and poor" you're mistaken. There is a big gap between the rich and poor but a lot of people consider themselves middle class. It's not like 10% of Americans live in mansions while the other 90% live in shacks. Finally, the north is where the propaganda started that the Civil War was over slavery. It did make the north look better and less racist but lately they have been teaching more accurate stuff. Now a lot of.. yankees haha, which I think is still funny to hear, know that the war wasn't started to stop slavery. We know that it was over economics which does tie in with slavery because a lot of the southern economy came from slave work.. but freeing the slaves wasn't the main focus for the north. Anyway, it's funny to hear how much people from the north and south differ. It's also funny that most people are saying "yankees and southerners" instead of "yankees and confederates" if you're going to be calling the north by their name, why not the south? |

| The Go! Team – Hold Yr Terror Close Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is so warm and comfortable and puts you at ease, and thats what its all about, just relaxing and trying to find ways to cope with bad things that may surround you. | |
| Pavement – Strings of Nashville Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I'm not too sure on what this song means. It's extremely relaxing and I like it a lot. I think it's just like a lullabye telling someone that they understand that things are hard and scary, but it's okay and you'll get through it as long as you follow what you say and make sure you stand out so that you don't just become a toy on the back of a magazine that no one will pay any attention to. | |
| Arcade Fire – Crown of Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To sum it up, he is confused about his feelings, he hides his feelings, he waits for a response from the girl, she is the only person he can think about, finally she gives him a straight answer of no, but he wont accept it because he doesn’t want the love to fade, and he doesn’t want to forget it. That’s why the beginning of the song says, “They say.” It isn’t what he thinks, its just what he’s been told. He just wont accept the fact that the love might have died. | |

"I carved your name across my eyelids, you pray for rain I pray for blindness." I think this line is saying that the only person that he can see is the girl. There isn't any way to get rid of it either, even with his eyes closed the name shines through, and the only way to forget about her would be blindness. My idea of the rest of the song is a little different from the previous ones. I think the reason that he’s asking for forgiveness is because he starting to give up on the love. His love for her keeps growing, and with it the pain keeps growing, but because she wont give a straight answer, he’s starting to lose hope. So he’s asking her to forgive him if she really does love him, because he’s losing hope. The part about the mom walking in the bedroom I don’t think has anything to do with masturbation or sex, I think he is just trying to hide his feelings because that’s just what people do. Before these two parts he’s apologizing because he snuffed out the spark and shrugged off the hands before his mom walked in, which means he has finally given up. Finally she gives the final answer, which is obviously that she no longer loves him, and he still apologizes for giving up hope on the love. He might think that his giving up hope was the reason for the loss of love, or it might just be that he doesn’t believe her when she gives him the final answer. Either way, he blames himself for the loss of love. That’s why the whole song is asking for forgiveness. In the end, even though she gave the final straight answer of no, he wont believe her, so he shouts, “You gotta be the one, you gotta be the way, your name is the only word that I can say.” He doesn’t care what she says, and he doesn’t want the love to fade, even though the beginning of the song says that’s just how it happens. He wont accept it, that’s why he yells in the end. |

| Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Also, when you have disassociation, you feel stuck. "I didn't want to go to bed And I didn't want to stay up late" You don't really want to do anything, but you don’t have much choice, you have to do something. You don't want to stay in bed, but you also don’t want to get out, so what do you do? Also, everyone keeps bringing up positive/negative as an opposite thing. Obviously they’re opposites, but when talking about magnets, the positive and negative sides stick together. |

| Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song basically just sums up disassociation. It's similar to depression, but you don't really have the sadness, and obviously no happiness. You just have nothing. Everything seems pointless. You feel robotic, as if your body is doing everything, and you’re just watching without much say in what you do. It's better than depression in some ways because you don’t get as sad about things, but it also makes you not care about living or anything, which can make you suicidal. | |
| Xiu Xiu – Support Our Troops OH! (Black Angels OH!) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It might be a personal thing, but I think it is directed to a general public also. I doubt he meant jock as just a person who plays sports. To different people, the word jock can mean different things, and the same goes for most words which label groups. Jock may mean someone who plays sports, but I think what he meant by it was the type of people who have a need to be better than everyone else. They have a masculine overdose in their body or something, and they just tend to play sports so that they can get their extra aggression out while at the same time showing that they're bigger and better. Not all people that play sports are jocks in my opinion. I think its more of the "I'm better than you" attitude than the actual playing of the sport that makes someone a jock. The "I'm better than you" attitude isn’t even really about being better though. People are just told that you should be the best, so really, when trying to be better than someone else, its more of a need to impress others. In my opinion (obviously), I think that this isn’t so much an anti-war song, as it is an anti-society song. Back during Vietnam, when the troops came home after going through hell, they were still treated like shit by people protesting the war. To avoid this problem again, a ton of propaganda was let out saying "support our troops" (no matter what). Because of this, you never hear "I'm against the war" anymore, without a follow-up statement of "but I support the troops." I think he was just saying that some of the troops don’t deserve support. They deserve to die, unlike some of the people that they kill. "Did you know you were going to shoot off the top of a four year old girl's head." I think the statement is really harsh during the release of this CD though because right now everyone participating in the war has signed up for it. A lot of these people -not all- are the previously mentioned jocks that need approval and power. (I know some people just do it to get money or schooling, etc.) I have a feeling though, that if there was a draft, his message would change drastically. (A lot of the troops would be people forced into war.. which isn’t really their fault.) P.S. Sorry I had to get all long and boring on you. |

| Ugly Casanova – Barnacles Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I don't really need to see, So I don't need to see, so i'll paint, I don't know, I'll paint it black. I don't need to see, I don't see, How you see, out of your window, I don't need to see, I'll paint mine black. (x2) I don't know me and you don't know you, So we fit so good together, 'cuz I knew you like I knew myself. We clung on like, barnacles on a boat, Even though the ship sinks, you know you can't let go. I was talkin' like, two hands knockin', Yellin' "let me in, let me in, please come out." Black glass, dirt based soap, tell yourself what you know, My friends, oh my friends, bury your head, I'll help you bury your plans. Hard hit, hard to miss, the problems are what a problem is. My light, it came up quick, call it your asterisk. Buried in the boys, and the boy's first book of the stars. Saw it as satellite, constant unblinking eyes, buried at the bottom of the bottom of a brackish lake. I don't really need to see, So I don't need to see, so i'll paint, I don't know, I'll paint it black. I don't need to see, I don't see, How you see, out of your window, I don't need to see, I'll paint mine black. (x2) |

| Unwritten Law – Save Me (Wake Up Call) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I've gone to the doctor.. I've been given medications.. I've gotten addicted to them.. I've overdosed on them.. I've went to a psych ward.. I've had insomnia for years.. I've almost died.. I've thought about heaven and not getting in because of having fun.. and I've just about done everything in this song. I think everyone who has said they relate to this song is an idiot. I just looked for the song because I heard the last part about heaven and liked it because I've thought about it. When I looked at the rest of the lyrics I liked it more. The song is just about being stuck. | |
