| Yes, the song is about the couple who never got to their reunion. After the song was written, Scalzo learned that they died going off a cliff. So, the song is NOT about them dying and going to heaven. Also, it isn't suicide. As a made up happy ending to the story (before learning of their cause of death), he wrote through the song that they ditched it and wandered the highway. "more important things to say" is probably the decision to wander. So they wandered and the car broke down, but they kept going. If you must persist with religious tones, then consider that the highway is their heaven, and that's where they are. | |
