I've always heard it's about a person headed to Vietnam. I felt that it was that way also. But it gets confusing. If he (Daniel) was headed to Spain then I feel he is going to vietnam. Because Spain would be a possible stop for a British Soldier going to Vietnam. Also Daniel says it's the Prettiest place he's ever seen. Which means he has Eyesight. Unless of course there is some poetic meaning in there. Then when it says "Scars that won't heal" I think he is back from Vietnam and has been wonded. Either way excellent song. |

Definitely about a young lesbian who sleeps with middle aged married women. I don't think she is a prostitute. Finding a Lesbian in Soho can't be that hard. But it's one of my favorite Elton John songs. |

The song is not exactly what it appears to be. It is almost a sarcastic tone. Kind of like if your watching the Game and your wife comes out and asks you "does this dress makes me look fat". And you reply. "Of course not". Even if it does. But I do think it is a love song. Because it is expressing true marriage. Where everything isn't perfect. It is a great song. |

I found out what the true meaning of this song while watching the History Channel. It was a special about the history of sex. It was talking about the Indian culture (The Indians in India. Not the American Indians). But aparently it is refering to a women in Indian culture who is the "Helen of Troy" so to say. She is suppose to be Sexually Talented. Obove Kama Sutra. I forgot what it was called but I think her specialty was in a form of sexual religion where supposedly people can have sex for hours if not days. But if you get a chance check it out from the History Channel. Which is my favorite channel. |

I have to say this is probably one of the greatest songs the Dixie Chicks ever wrote. Which is another reason I love the DCs. They write their own music. Though I don't agree with the Dixie Chicks Politics. Or many of the other artists. I think they are probably the most talented Music acts of any kind ever. I agree with the War and President Bush. But I hope that one day people will forgive the Dixie Chicks and they can go back to recording great music. But overall this is a great song. It brings a tear to this 20 year old male. And I'm not usually sympathetic. Dixie Chicks I hope you come back. |

This song freakin Rocks. It symbolizes America better than anything. We are an aggresive country. We have always been and always will be. It's the American Way. But it is ok. People are able to comment on this song and bitch about it because of the dead soldiers who stuck some boots in some people's asses. God bless America. By the way. Duran Duran actually cleared this up on VH1's True Spin. The meaning of the song is their Love of America. "You know your something special and you look like your the best". That is them stating how America is considered to be one of the best countries. (Even though many dis-agree) "And when she shines she shows you all she can" America always comes through and comes out on top. It is there way of saying we do good. "From mountains in the North down to the Rio Grande". It doesn't get much more plain. Also you have to think about an Artist and their obsession with America. America is where an Artist wants to be big. The Beatles became imortal when they stepped off that plane in America. America is an Artist's promised land. Also they said on the show they love America so much they are still here. |

I've heard that it is based on a true experiences. Such as they did stay at a haunted hotel. But the song refers to drugs and the lifestyle of California or more like Rock and Roll. The line "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave" I feel what that really means is You can die from it at anytime. But you can't escape the addiction. I think it is a combination of a lot of the comments. It's about Rock & Roll, Drugs, Love, Lifestyles, and excesses of life. The fact though that no one can come with a definite answer to the meaning of this song shows the great talent of this band. I feel it is lost in a lot of today's music. But I also feel it is coming back. |

It is an interesting song. I first heard it on GTA Vice City. It mentions that she is from a British Band. I looked her up and she is the child of Marty Wilde. Who was a pop singer during (I guess from the sound of his music) the 50s. He is also the one who wrote the song. There are 2 meanings I can get out of this song. Either it is that A) She is singing about how the kids in America drive the Music industry because of American obsession with Music. Many bands won't even except they made it till they made it to America. The second meaning is that when she started becoming big in America or possibly touring it she felt like she was a "Kid" to this new land. Either way I find a catchy song. And even though it is full blown Pop I find there is actual thought put into it than just some Brittany Spears factory produced songs. |
