idk if anyone has said this, and i'm too lazy to look so here's my take. so its about a father and a son, clearly the son with some sort of drug addiction. the father starts of "Step one you say we need to talk He walks you say sit down it's just a talk He smiles politely back at you You stare politely right on through Some sort of window to your right As he goes left and you stay right" so yeah he wants to talk to him about his decisons "Between the lines of fear and blame And you begin to wonder why you came" in a way the father blames himself, cus the parents obviously have influence on the kids, he asks himself "where did i go wrong" cus him being the father had to have done something wrong if the kid had to turn to drugs "And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life" he thinks if maybe he would've taken more time this wouldnt have happened, and thus his life would be saved. "Let him know that you know best Cause after all you do know best" you know how ppl always say your parents know better or "best" in this case. "Try to slip past his defense Without granting innocence Lay down a list of what is wrong The things you've told him all along" he has to tell him what is wrong, and stuff..and the innocent part is cus kids are always innocent in some sort of way, and he's always told the kid wrong from right. then he goes back to blaming himself and wondering what he could've done better "Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life" then "As he begins to raise his voice You lower yours and grant him one last choice" they start fighting or arguing so he's like kicking him out or something?
