I will never understand why people believe this is a great and amazing song. It is over-played by every radio station. His voice is terrible. Hinder isn't that great of a band. A weak version of Nickelback at best. The meaning behind the song is kinda messed up to say the least. But people still believe that this is one of the best love songs or songs period to come out in recent time. It boggles my mind. And the radio has kills me with how many times it plays it. For that aspect, this songs deserves some sort of Grammy or award. Possibly worst song ever made famous. |

Everyone always comments on how much the song relates to him or her, but no one ever discusses or explicates the lyrics to the song. With this song, it may be self-explanatory to some people, but I think there is another way to look at it. I've never seen the video, and the music video to a song is not always reliable for relating to the song. Sometimes the video has nothing to do with the song. And if you are going to relate one video to one song then you need to relate all music videos to all songs. But that's besides the point. I don't necessarily see the lyrics as something that the guy singing is proud of doing. Yes, the male voice let the female go and looking back he realizes that she was a better person than he was. But I think the male actually feels bad because he took advantage of the situation. He misses her "innocence." The female knew no better, possibly she was younger than he was or more naive. The speaker misses her nightgown and her hair in his face are just examples of her absence. The speaker said he wouldn't miss her, because at the time he knew that he was taking advantage of the system and that she didn't mean much to him. But after she is gone, he feels it more. Kind of a 'you don't know what you got till it's gone' thing. But the song changes its direction with me when the male speaker talks about the one memory he doesn't want to lose--the time in the dressing room. In my opinion, if you are with or were with someone you love, there are other memories that you wouldn't want to lose other than hooking up in the dressing room. Also, he found the pictures he took she was looking for. This could be dirty pictures that were taken that she doesn't want leaked out. Another example of taking advantage of her innocence and her being naive. If you want to tie the video in, the male speaker had to hide the drugs from her and now he feels guilty for doing so. This could also show her being more naive. In the end of the song, the male speaker realizes that he did mess up and that he probably should have cleaned up his ways some, but he didn't and now he probably will end up missing something great he could have had. This is just the way I have explicated the song lyrics. Love the song for how you like how it relates to your situation, either current or past. Because that is what makes music amazing. The ability to transcend lines and find a way for everyone to relate to it is what can make a song great. I'm just putting this out there for discussion.
