Neil Young – Southern Man Lyrics 19 years ago
I just couldn't help noticing that ignorant is a very popular word in this forum. I'm guilty of using it several times, myself.

Neil Young – Southern Man Lyrics 19 years ago
Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on the song.

It was obviously written from the perspective of an ignorant trouble-making Yankee; and, personally, I find it offensive. Such lyrics could not possibly have any effects except increasing strife between blacks and whites or between Yankees and Southrons.

Neil Young – Southern Man Lyrics 19 years ago
From the looks of this forum, I'd say that unwarranted sectionalism, as well as racism, is still present throughout the nation.

Yankees, ya'll need to lay off the flag issue. The War for Southern Independence was not fought over the moral issue of slavery. Many historians and scholars will agree that the cause of the conflict was purely economic. The moral aspect of slavery became a significant issue only after Lincoln used it as propaganda in the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. Since then, the initial causes of the war have been further distorted by popular culture, misleading history textbooks, and political propaganda. Some Southerners merely want to fly a Confederate flag in honor of the Confederacy's initial values and the hundreds of thousands of their countrymen who died for those values.

Fellow Southrons, I wish we'd won, but we didn't. I wish our flag still represented our original noble goals, but it doesn't. Almost everyone who raises the flag uses the same one often used by the KKK, and they really do so out of contempt for blacks or ignorant Yankees, though they hide behind the old Southern-heritage defense. Those of you who raise the flag for such insincere reasons are a disgrace to our culture and an insult to the brave men, on both sides, who fought and died in the American Civil War.

Dolly Parton – I Will Always Love You Lyrics 19 years ago
This is probably Dolly's best song ever.

The story I'd heard is that she wrote it as a farewell to Porter Wagoner, but when I tried to verify that information, I found that "I Will Always Love You" was released in February, 1974, while Porter and Dolly released an album in August, 1974, and another in August, 1975. So, I doubt that Dolly addressed the song to Porter since it was released just before the pinnacle of their joint career.

One thing is for sure: Dolly Parton's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" is the best there has ever been.

Queen – Bring Back That Leroy Brown Lyrics 19 years ago
I did not submit the above post. A friend, who is registered as 70's_rocker, posted it while I was away from the computer. I cannot verify the validity of the statement, nor do I claim it as my opinion. To be honest, I don't know who Jim Croce or Leroy Brown are. And I don't particularly care for Queen's music. I apologize for any misunderstandings.

It is a mock of the song by Jim Croce, "Leroy Brown".

Johnny Cash – Ring of Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is the epitome of country music.

It's very unique, yet it explains everything else.

"Love is a burning thing." ...The theme is universal.

Dolly Parton – 9 To 5 Lyrics 19 years ago
Also, it's interesting to note that Dolly also won a Golden Globe for her acting performance in the movie 9 to 5. She unexpectedly overshadowed her costars, including Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Dolly Parton rules!

Dolly Parton – 9 To 5 Lyrics 19 years ago
Dolly wrote this song as a theme song for Jane Fonda's movie 9 to 5 in (I think) 1980. Dolly portrayed a feisty Southern secretary in the movie. The song became one of Dolly's greatest hits, reaching #1 on the country charts as well as #1 on the pop charts. It earned a Rolling Stone cover story, a Grammy, and an Oscar. It was featured as #78 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years ... 100 Songs.

I don't have anything against Whitney Houston, but her rendition pales in comparison to that of Dolly Parton.

C.W. McCall – Convoy Lyrics 19 years ago
This might be McCall's most popular song, but it is by no means a "one-hit wonder." Many of his other songs are as entertaining as "Convoy." Examples:
"Old Home Fill 'Er Up An' Keep On A-Truckin' Cafe" as well as "Wolf Creek Pass."
