Dave Matthews Band – Some Devil Lyrics 20 years ago
Yea, I basically agree with the gyst of what everyone else has entered: "Some Devil" depicts the feeling that one will remember their lost love "always and forever" now that they've been left. Dave's broken voice is mournful as hell, and I can hardly stand to listen to it sometimes, but the message is quite beautiful. Days following the conclusion of a long time relationship, I felt terrible, completly devoid of any emotion other than love for the girl who had just broken my heart. It's hard to listen to on a cloudy day, but Dave sings this one with honesty and heart; one of the most touching songs I've ever heard.

Dave Matthews Band – So Damn Lucky Lyrics 21 years ago
Additionally, I find this tune almost uplifting. Afterall, with the title "So Damn Lucky", one would rarely expect the song to deal with drunken driving related death. It wasn't until I listened to it a couple more times that I realized, though the character asks "what will soon become of me", the fact that he realizes someone was his love is damn lucky in itself. He had someone in the world who cared for him, and though he's dieing she isn't. Some could justifiably argue that dying with something left to live for is even more awful than dying with nothing, but I think that the fact the character doesn't die feeling alone, but rather gives thanks to the fact that his love will be living on is a blessing in such a situation.

I don't think this song references religion in anyway. While it’s obviously about a driver’s racing mind upon hitting a curve and running off the road, I think it may have been a drunken driving accident. He mentions that his love told him to take it slow, and he didn’t listen. They were probably both at the same venue with available alcohol, and she decided not to drive with him after he made his intention to drive clear. This is the obvious reason he’s “so damn lucky”: she went on ahead. Also, near the songs conclusion, Dave wishes he could be taken back until before he “got dizzy”. Though he claimed to have gotten dizzy due to the spinning of the car, there could be a double meaning, one of the classic subtleties in Dave’s lyrics that I love.
