| Green Day – Sweet Children Lyrics | 21 years ago |

The lyrics are wrong, they should be: Sweet young girl so soft and blond Does exactly what she's been warned Intoxication's in her veins Sweet young boy plays with her friend Believing all his fate filled lies Putting his hands on to her thighs Her purity has now been ripped He takes it away and that's it Sweet children Sweet children Sweet children We'll never win Johnny Ray has running beer As the end is drawing near Running from the light of day Or maybe he'd lie and celebrate This funny circus from his head Follow me if you understand You're the trigger of his gun And then I'll sing and now we run Sweet children Sweet children Sweet children We'll never win Sweet children Sweet children Sweet children We'll never win |

| Green Day – Don't Wanna Fall in Love Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Funny, the last line always sounded to me like "this may sound a little fucked, I want to fall in love" as in he's trying to resist falling in love again but can't but i could be wrong |

| Green Day – Redundant Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think it's about how there's a certain novelty at the beginning of a relationship, where everything's exciting and saything simple things like "I love you" can be very meaningful. Now they've been together for such a long time that everything's just redundant. "Taken for granted now Now I waste it, I faked it, I ate it, now I hate it" He regrets that he didn't appreciate the relationship more in the beginning. Like he wishes he said "i love you" more when it still meant something. Now he's more in love with her than ever but there's nothing left to say. |

| Green Day – Blood, Sex and Booze Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This has got to be my favourite Green Day song ever! It's constantly being put on repeat. Other than the obvious connotations, I'm pretty sure this song is about selling out and becoming more mainstream. "You know I will obey, so please Don’t make me beg For blood, sex and booze you give me" He's saying he's already sold out, to get the blood, sex, and booze, so don't make him change completely who he is. "Thank you sir, strike up another mandolin Of discipline" They're telling him to play a disciplined mandolin, or to conform their music. "Throw me to the dogs Let them eat my flesh down To the wood It feels so good" The dogs are the fans and critics who call them sell outs. He gets some satisfaction from the hypocrisy, because they are just jealous that they can't have GD all to themselves anymore. Anyway, struggling with authority and the popular opinion is an underlying theme to this album (think warning, castaway, fashion victim, minority, macy's day parade, etc.) So even though it sounds poppish, it's still a pretty punk album. It's rather satirical actually. GD has done the unthinkable, they sold out, and did it well. |

| Foo Fighters – All My Life Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Great song, my favorite from the foo fighters. I actually think it's about having sex with groupies, or at least being in series of bad relationships. "All my life I've been searching for somethin' Somethin' never comes, never leads to nuthin' Nothin' satisfies, but I'm gettin' close Closer to the prize at the end of the rope" he's looking for that special something but never finds it and keeps searching recklessly "All night long I dream of the day When it comes around, and it's takin'away Leaves me with the feelin' that I fear the most Feel it come to life when I see your ghost" Maybe he's a sexaholic and gets into unfulfilling relationships and then is haunted by them "Hey, don't let it go to waste I love it but, i hate that taste Weight keeping me down" he hates the aftertaste, or the aftermath, of what happens, but enjoys it to much to stop. can't let all the opportunities go to waste, because he is a rock star and all. "Done, done, and I'm on to the next one" self-explanatory Could possibly be about a drug addiction, but I seriously doubt the "going down on a girl" theory. |

This song was amazing the first time I heard it. Unfortunately, after the first 100 or so times, it did get to be a little redundant, but that’s a necessary evil that comes with being ridiculously good. It still manages to fit in nicely with the rest of the album though. Basically, it explains how JOS is feeling after leaving home. It can be applied to any situation with someone who’s fighting for a cause and thinks that they’re the only one who cares. It all goes back to the idea of not being an “American Idiot” who just follows what everyone else says and doesn’t put in the effort to have their own opinions. It’s a great follow-up to Holiday, where JOS states his opinions blatantly and is perhaps isolated for doing so. It really captures the loneliness that you feel after you’ve broken away from everything that you know and begin to walk on your own path. On a separate note, what’s the big deal with the eyeliner? First of all, I think it’s pretty hot. Secondly, it’s not because they’re sellouts or trying to get attention. Billie Joe said in an interview that David Bowie was one of his biggest influences, and that he found the whole androgynous thing interesting and appealing. So it’s more of a tribute to Bowie than anything else. I like GD’s old stuff, of course, but they had to grow up sometime, and I think they’ve done a wonderful job of it. Props to Leena for her insightful comments. |

I know, but Billie Joe's mom is from Oklahoma, hence his name. You'd think he'd take that into consideration. I never knew before that you couldn't say faggot on TV. On MTV they even censered out "redneck." What's this world coming to? |

Wow, I can't believe I just wasted an hour of my life skimming through these often inane and occasionally hilarious comments. Here's my opinion... First, I've got a little bit of a dilemma, being both a conservative and a long-time Green Day fan. I believe that American Idiot is timeless and can be loosely applied to any period of disillusionment within society. On the other hand, GD is obviously anti-bush and they communicate that through the song as well. Even though I do not agree, I respect GD for broadcasting their opinion. People complain that they should be doing something if they feel that way; well, they are. They are musicians, they make music, that’s what they do, very well in my opinion. I agree with what cmoney said way back when… “Obviously, “American Idiot” was written that way because Billie felt that way. He isn’t right or wrong, it is all a matter of opinion. Personally, I support Bush so this song's lyrics don’t really reach out to me, but I do believe the fact that the media does control a lot of the information we see. I believe the whole message is not to get swept up in anyone’s crap about what they believe. Do your own research and develop your own opinion.” The idiots they talk about are the apathetic and ignorant, not the conservative. Billie Joe himself has admitted that some of the lyrics in Holiday are taking a stab at liberals, “Another protester has crossed the line/To find, the money's on the other side.” And while it’s ironic to hear GD playing AI on MTV, I don’t think it makes them sell-outs. Just because their music is good and a lot of people listen to it, doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. The members of GD would be rich and famous without AI, so you can’t claim they put it out there just to be trendy and get rich. Also, please don’t throw around the word poser about people who suddenly begin to like GD. Just because you consider yourself superior to them, you don’t have to act like they don’t have a right to enjoy good music. On a different note, I think it’s funny how someone with a name like “Billie Joe” goes around calling people rednecks. What happened to “One for the Razorbacks?” |

orang55, It sounded familiar to me too. I think the line "Tryin to take something you haven't got" has the same melody as "For blood, sex, and booze you give me." However, I don't have my iPod with me right now so I'm not sure. I agree with fruitonpie as to the meaning. |
