to start off, i wanted to tell rvg that this site isnt put up for you to state your opinion, it's here for you to help everyone else understand what it is about.
aside from that, this song is awesome...i comepletely relate to it from my last relationship--i know you hear that all the time but seriously, it does...my girlfriend moved and me and her stayed together...everything seemed to be going good aside from the initial stress of being apart...next thing i know i find out she cheated on me...we broke up, but i still loved her yet i realized i had to move on
this song is about him moving on because of the couple splitting...he is glad she found someone else but he is just letting her know that he will never forget what they had
this song could not be closer to how i feel about the relationship i had with my ex...so hats up to jason for that |

I love this song so much. It is by far the best song on the CD.

I dont think I've ever been able to relate to a song as much as this one. My girlfriend moved away, and just started changing. I could feel we were growing apart but I really did love her and I tried so hard to save our relationship. She ended up cheating on me with this guy and goes out with him now.
Anyways, this song is awesome and obviously I've totally been able to relate to it. Props to the Shins. |

Yes, this is an incredible song. But, Traumattizing, it's not like that. It's not like when Dave cant come up with a name he just goes to the sound guy, and if the sound gay cant come up with one it'll just be a number...that's not even close to being right, and i dont know where you even got that from. All the credit goes to Bob Dylan for coming up with the incredible lyrics. They tell a story and make you keep wanting to listen and try to understand what it means. Dave plays it with incredible emotion and I love it for that reason. I think the best version he plays is on Recently. Nonetheless, incredible song no matter who's performing it. Yes, the song is about the native american suffrage when the colonists came to America. And no, Dave never says "suppose i'm gay" on the studio version, obviously you heard him wrong (Though i can see why you think that). This is one of the most commonly played songs Dave plays on tour. And by the way, tms6879, i think it's pretty cool you're telling what it means to you on a personal basis, because Dave likes to put many different meanings to his songs, and theres not always just one meaning. |

I totally agree with LiNkNmark. This is by far my favorite DMB song. I dont think you can always take Dave's lyrics so literally though, he's not the type that flat out tells you what the song is about. Sometimes his lyrics arent meant for you to disect...Just to enjoy and feel what he's feeling at the time the song was written.
Anyways, I just love this song and it's probably the song that made me fall in love with the Band. |

I can personally relate to this song. Me and my ex just broke up a few months ago after a really long relationship. She has this new boyfriend and it just kills me to think about them together. I know i'm the right one for her..but just wish she knew. Her new boyfriend is a total jerk and the only reason he likes her is because of the way she looks. I love her for her, inside and out. And i think that is exactly what this song is trying to convey. |
