| M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I'd like to thank "gezilari". Seriously. I've been hearing this on the radio so much recently, and on TV, in commercials, etc. It's practically shoved down our throats and a lot of people here are gladly swallowing it down by the shitload(literally). It's sampled from a brilliant song with astounding social commentary. In case none of you have heard "Straight to Hell" by the Clash, you should. "Paper Planes" is a good sample thrown completely out of whack by nonsensical lyrics. What do the lyrics mean? Some made up crap that doesn't even go well together but falls under the general category of "gangster bullshit", but as gezilari points out, "gangster" in modern day music terms is a bastardization of the term and all it actually means. But you know, this and gezilari's post will be buried by tens of people saying something along the lines of "gangster LYFE" or "I love this song". There's also going to be a lot of "I like to smoke and listen to this song". I smoke as well, and I'd rather listen to "Straight to Hell" over this on any occasion. But that might be because my attention span is long enough to realize that outside of the sample, this song is terrible. |

| Huey Lewis and the News – The Heart Of Rock And Roll Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| To the best of my knowledge, this song is about Huey Lewis' obsession with the major chain restaurant of the 80's, "The Heart of Rock n Roll". At one point it was considered for a commercial for the restaurant, but they company thought the song was too gay. | |
| Tom Jones – She's a Lady Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It's actually about a transvestite. In the original version, at the 3:50 mark, Tom screams, "Oh no, HE'S A LADY" PS: Tom Jones is English, so this sort of thing is encouraged in his area. |

| Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Definitely references a lot of the tension between the Confederate of Deep Sea Pirates and the North American Alliance of Clowns | |
| Corey Hart – Sunglasses at Night Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about pirates | |
| Shivaree – Goodnight Moon Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I saw her live, and she had a whole funny story lined up. If I remember correctly, she was in her house with her guitarist, and she was scared for some reason. So, he told her to go and get the largest bud she had, because he knew she bought a decent size one. So she got it, and he lit it, and made up something about burning it for the souls in the room. Just a funny story, but does shed some light on the obvious "girl is scared" meaning. | |
