This song is about doing what you want and not worrying about everyone else thinks. The dancing in snow is about going along with your wishes and being proud of your dreams. It's about staying real when everyone else is being blinded by material things like money. Love love LOVE this song. |

I love this song. The instrumentals are tight and the message is great. I think the song is about doing your own thing and not letting the rest of society get to you. You gotta enjoy the little special things in life and forget about material items. Don't worry what other people think of you, just as long as you're happy with yourself. |

This song is so beautiful. I looove it. It is one of my favorite songs. I think it is about a guy who is reassuring the girl he loves that he will be there no matter what happens. He is not sure what his future holds, but he will always hold her close to his heart. *Sigh* I want a guy like that. |

| Jimmy Eat World – 23 Lyrics

This song is just so beautiful and thought provoking. I've noticed that with many of the JEW songs there are so many ways that the lyrics could be interpreted, but once you listen to the song (I mean FULL on listen with your eyes closed) you can hear how Jimmy projects his feeling through his voice. That is one of the many things that makes Jimmy Eat World stand out from other bands.
Anyways.. my interpretation of the meaning (sorry in advance if my thoughts are jumbled):
Jimmy said that the CD is about growing up and experiencing different things along the way. I definately feel that this song is along those lines. I think it is about a guy who dumped his girlfriend when he noticed that he needed to find himself. Sometimes if you become to close with someone else, you sacrifice so much that you forget who you are or where you came from, and he has reached that point where you give up your identity or give up the relationship.
The first two stanzas seem to tell us that he did love her very much (she is the only one who will have him), but he needed some fresh air. As he moves on, somewhat regretingly, he feels that this is his own time to grow.
I think the chorus is his thought-process. He is breaking free and looking toward the future. He doesn't want to know exactly what it holds, but he has hope that his life can once again progress towards a glorious future.
Just some of my thoughts on the song. E-mail me with any comments. :-P |

| Dashboard Confessional – Turpentine Chaser Lyrics

I agree with dashchick and all the people who think it is about relationships failing and coming to the point where you know if you don't work at it, it will just blow up. About needing breaks and finding yourself and fixing your own problems before you go back to the one you love. To the people who think its about broken homes, here's my thought: home could be a metaphor. Have you ever felt so comfortable with someone where you know that they are your rock, trust, and comfort? Home is a place where you can always go if you need help or a boost of confidence. The house is breaking, like their hearts and they must be honest with their mistakes if the relationship is going to move forward. |

Mmmm! Love the song, love the CD, love JEW! I won't interpret the whole song b/c a lot of you already did a fine job. But the meaning of these lines just hit me today:
Are you happy where you're standing still?
Do you really want the sugar pill?
-It's like, can you be content with the way life is? If you are satisfied, then you have no need for drugs. Maybe obvious, I dunno, but that clicked out of nowhere today I was like "ooh thats what it means I get it!" Anyhoo Jimmy Eat World is the best and I am so excited about the upcoming tour. I am SO there! |

This day and age, we (girls especially) are constantly bombarded with the ideas that you have to look and act a certain way to be accepted. This song is really encouraging to me because it reminds me that material things are all temporary and the "Perfect Life" isn't the bouquet of roses it is portrayed as. |

To me this song is about wanting to change for the better, but needing a little help to get there. Like when you know you've messed up and you want to fix it, but you're just not quite sure how to yet. Unwritten Law is pretty cool. They've changed a lot since the last time I've heard them. But I definately am looking forward to the new CD. |

Brand New is so great as is this song and all of their other ones! I love it all. When I think of this song I think of of flaws in relationships that are either overlooked or glossed over and could eventually lead to destruction. |

This song is so freaking awesome. I think it has to do with giving up on the girl b/c he's tired of all the sh!t they go through. But whenever I listen to it, I think of crappy relationships. This song relates to how I've felt in a past relationship 100% (I never cheated.. just dumped him) I think of boys who act hard to get while you're with them. Like, "Oh whatever I am with my friends right now." and blowing you off like you're not important. I love the song though. When I listen to it my heart just cries out that I don't need guys to feel complete and I can be confident on my own. I love it. |

I love the whole CD, but this song is by far my favorite. The last two verses just make me melt! I'm not sure if it's about a crush or past love, but I think it's about someone who he is close with, but has never told that he likes in "that way". Oh my gosh I jsut love this song so damn much! |

| Jimmy Eat World – Work Lyrics

I don't think the "work and play" are to be taken literally. I think the whole idea of taking a ride and getting away is just like saying "Let's just give this a chance and live it up" so the work is probably noticable tension when he is trying to get his girl to relax and just go with life's flow. |

Yeah, I not sure what this song is supposed to mean, but perhaps it relates somehow to the whole growth, drug, or relationship theme of the CD. Initial response tells me that this song is about overcoming. Like when you get to a situation where you can't help but blame yourself for the outcome, even though it should have turned out alright. I dunno. Nevertheless I agree with unknown user, the solo is great! |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Sympathy Lyrics

This song is so lovely and I've really felt it in my experiences. We can all take this different ways, but I think the way it was intended was to show his regret for a relationship he sort of took for granted. Like she was always empathetic towards him but he still wanted more. At the time he was involved he believed so strongly that he was one person, but he took a look at the way he was living and realized that he hadn't been living up to his expectations and he wanted more. He tried convincing himself that he was meant to settle down with this one girl, but his dreams were stronger than his feelings for her and he had to follow them. We all leave things we love because we think we know what is best, but sometimes we realize that we would have been better off in our old situation, because our new way of living doesn't live up to what we thought it would be. Yeah, I dunno, I'm sorta just rambling now.. |

| New Found Glory – I Don't Wanna Know Lyrics

this song isn't too hard to interepret... the fluster of emotions we feel when we first start liking someone, how we want to impress them, and what goes on typically. I think the chorus is just talking about how when you're falling in love you lay on your bed at night ("staring at the ceiling") and think of them constantly. He's not sure what the future holds, but at the same time he isn't sure if he wants to because it might ruin the emotional high he's on. |

this song obviously touches those of us who have had a sucky time during the holidays.. but i also think that the december could symbolize cold winters and the feeling they bring of bitter lonliness when everything is supposed to be cheerful. |
