I like this song, but the "next time, it could be curtains" ruins it for me, its a bad line that stands out in the song because of the music. i think it sounds really tacky personally. |

well, as its a happy mondays song, i guess drugs isnt a bad guess, although considering the lyrics more like a drug dealer if it is to do with drugs. but just because its on a particular soundtrack doesnt mean theres a necessary connection between the two |

the way the song was described to me before i heard it was as a piss take of most rappers, who just talk a load of meaningless shit about how many women theyve fucked etc, but have pretensions about nobler goals (throughout the projects etc), when most thier songs are as meaningless as this is really. well, ok the idea developed a little bit in my head too. |

im not sure, but the addiction idea might be right. its known brett had a drug problem. "when i need to sate" can be seen as sating your addiction, "...into oblivion" oblivion could be a reference to the high
"when measured in the vein" is perhaps a more obvious to IV drug use
personally, i think the song could be about addiction, as a response to the horror of the modern world. "i just want to live decently, meaningfully..." suggests shame at using drugs as an escape. the song isnt an excuse for drug abuse, but just says why people turn to it |
