Sorry, this part didn't go up... I think that that part is talking about how with out those things and sticking to the principles of being straightedge, he is able to love himself. By respecting his body, he can use hmself to his full potential into performing, recording, etc. cinematicsnow90- IM me if you wanna discuss a song. |

I think that XxDaveyisageniousxX has a great point, but it's not exactly what first came to my mind. I also don't know much about vampires, so I can't really make a judgement on that. When I first heard the song, I was thinking about being straightedge... I think the first part about the the thousand screams, pains, etc,. represent people dying from drugs, and stuff... I think that feeling the love, and tasting the life low, etc. is about being relieved of all that stuff, and having a feeling of freedom with out drugs, alcohol, etc.... I think that the second verse is talking about how even though those types of things might feel good, it's still hurting you internally. "Want to consume, want to renew..." is talking about the addiction to those things... Finally the bridge: "I offer grace, I offer blood, I offer everything 'til my heart is crystal clear!" < | |

Well, first of all, I went to a live show of theirs and bought this album a few weeks later, and it felt like I heard them play it which really surprised me. Anyways, it's a great song live, if I even saw it, but I might no have. I think this song, like alot of the songs on Black Sails, are about being different, and being considered "weird" and being ignored, and shunned. I think it's about someone who was at first tired of being viewed as kind of a spooky kid so he sort of changed and conformed to the majority so he could "fit in." I think that the song is also talking about how he still likes his true self and wishes that he could reveal to all his new friends that now accept him how he truly is, and wishes they would still love him for what he truly is. The song is about contemplating whether having friends and fitting in is worth not being to express your true feelings... If ya wanna discuss a song IM me on aim at cinematicsnow90 |

| AFI – ...But Home Is Nowhere Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I think that the song is basically just a reflection of Davey's entire life until this point "26 years and seems like I've just begun to understand my intimate is no one." This must be a feeling of that he's worked so hard as a songwriter and musician, and realizes the band's talent, but is kind of disappointed by how alot of other mediocre bands get 1o times more appreciation. As far as the next part "when the direcor sold the show..." I'm not completely sure, but I think it's about how people shun their differences, and try to change them. I believe the chorus is pretty much the same, no one true meaning, but just a reflection of his own life: "This is my line this is eternal..." I think it's saying how he's found his niche, and this what he's going to do forever. "How did I ever end up here?" I think that all that is is just him pondering how he ever became a musician in the first place. Judging by the next part: "Discarnate preternatural" I don't see how it fits my interpretation, but it just means that when he dies he'll become a supernatural being...? And the next part is pretty obvious: "My prayers to disappear, Absent of Grace marked as infernal." Since he claims to not affiliate himself to any religion which is his absence of grade some people think he is satanic "infernal" As far as the end of the chorus, it kind of baffles me... but like this nature so unnatural, I'm guessing that it's just him saying how completely messed up the world is today. and the end, "I remain alone" is just stating how secluded he is from the rest of the world, how he is considered an outcast. I believe the second verse "26 years and, still speaking in these tounges. Such revelations, while understoood by no one." I think that the "tounges" are his very mysterious lyrics, i think he considers his songs, "revelations" which means revealing something, as misunderstood, which is very evident because none of us know what goes on in Davey's head. I think that the second part of the chorus is saying that he is supposedly the "new actor stealing the show" and by that he is talking about his coming into the mainstream life with his music, but still being "questioned his grace." And by "clearing the house of ill-aquired taste" I think he could mean to rid the world of their exposure to mediocre music which is considered as good, by the radio, MTV, etc. and since this is not something AFI has ever been a part of and now they are, the people that are seeing them for the first time, are sort of liking them without knowing their beginings, and also the people who liked them a long time ago and are labeling them as sell-outs now that they are getting the publicity that they have now. I think he considers their old music "bad taste" or something and wants people to respect their evolution and change for the better as a band. The part about the "give me something..."I think is talking again about his lack of recognition as a very talented musician. As far as the bridge I tihnk it's just representing how when he stops and thinks about al that's going on badly in his life, he gets angry, that would explain the agression in that part of the song, but the lyrics... could possibly represent hi life, and even though he has all the "pieces" he doesn't know how they're all going to fit... he longs to see how is life is going to end up... Wowzers, that was a mouthful, one of my favorite songs, very emotional... If you have any comments, and have aim, IM me at cinematicsnow90. |

| AFI – Strength Through Wounding Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I really believe this is another religion song. I think the darkness and light represent good and evil. I think it is about how the evil will fight to regain their strength. "Through the darkness breaks the light" The next line, "Through the light unending pain" is also representing their struggle against the "light." Deify means to honor, or treat like a god, so I think it means that their summoning demons or something (wretched ones) to help them sort of "win". (the 'coming of darkness' is what represents victory. As far as the chorus... I think it just means That they will all stand together to reach the same common goal...? Any comments? IM me if you have aim cinematicsnow90 |

| AFI – The Lost Souls Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think this song is about some one (not necessarily Davey) who is sort of in doubt about religion. I think that the "water" is representing heaven, and the "ocean floor" is representing hell. Also, in the second verse when it refers to the sides of the earth I think that represents glory in the afterlife no matter what. I hink that the first verse is what this person sort of "hears" what "Satan" is saying trying to persuade him if you will, and the second verse, I believe, is what he's "hearing from "God." Pretty vague, but the lyrics kind of fit. IM me if you have aim and wanna discuss a song or something cinematicsnow90. | |
| AFI – I Wanna Mohawk (But Mom Won't Let Me Get One) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Oh... my... Gosh... you guys need to really get a grip... I was enraged at the amount of people who've posted for this song. It was a loooooong time ago, and it is when they were a super hardcore band with no clue as to making real music. It's how he was then, which is okay, but do you ever wonder why he's not the same way any more??? Oh and anyone who says that they're feakin' emo, then... psshhht! | |
| AFI – A Story At Three Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I'm not sure as to exactly what the meaning is. It's the most perplexing of all, but I think that gorgo13, is on the right track. One thing I really like about Davey's lyrics is the fact that no matter what they mean to him, they can mean whatever you want them to mean to yourself. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of how I've changed throughout my whole life, and how it's going to end, and what I'm still waiting for to happen, etc. I'll stop before I start to cry. |

| AFI – Third Season Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This song I really like because of mainly the time in AFI's growth as a band it was written. Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes is one of my favorite Albums because it still has the hardcore roots by which they were created, but also, the deep and meaningful lyrics that I love so much. I think this song could be about a plethora of things. forst of all I think that because of Davey's sensitivity to the sun he longs for fall, and the ending of summer. I also think it could be about how people really change and how some people may react to change for better or for worse. I think that it could be talking about a guy who wasn't satisfied with himself, and was tired of being pushed around so he changed, and he plans to take revenge. "It's gonna take you by surprise as it rises!" |

| In every interview I read with Davey, he is always asked a question and replies that he does not affiliate himself with any organized religion. After listening to alot of their songs, and really thinking about the lyrics, quite a few of them kind of hint at religion I think. This one, I believe does the same. I think that he wrote this song in December while everyone is celebrating and was sort of contemplating his own faith. "Forever longing for a sign of life, a bringer of life." I think he wants to believe that there truly is a god, but just doesn't have enough tangible evidence. | |
| AFI – Rolling Balls Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Okay, guys... even though what he's saying is very obvious, I think there's more to it than just cutting off your testacles so you can bowl. As we all know Davey's lyrics never mean exactly what they say, and I think that maybe he was just wondering what it would be like to be a woman, and didn't want to really write a song that described what it was like, but rather an artistic representation of a man becoming a woman. there is clearly humor in this song, yes, but still a hint of creative representation. |
