Why hasn't anybody commented on this great song? One of Mick Jones' greatest performances. Deals with race, class, music, drugs-- a little something for everyone. Whoever put the lyrics in forgot 'Brillcream baby, Pomade!!' |

This is a genius song, one of the most thought provoking I've ever listened to, about the nature of man's ego and sense of competition-- the song basically follows a child through his development in adolescence, adulthood, and eventually world power-- to demonstrate that the same sense of 'look at me, no handlebars!' which is so innocent in the child's mind translates to war and holocaust if allowed to proceed unchecked within the adult who has risen to world power. Along the way, we see the achievements and bragging gradually get less innocent and more menacing, but the seeds planted in the child's mind resulted in the powerful adult's atrocities. |

A beautiful song that makes you stop in your tracks and reflect. My only complaint is that it is too short, wish it was at least 4 minutes long. |

| Peter Gabriel – Solsbury Hill Lyrics

I have listened to this song since the early 80's but never 'heard' the lyrics until the other day--know what i'm talking about? The song clearly has religious overtones, Peter is visited by 'Father" (who happens to be God, not Jesus), and has an epiphany or revelation that he keeps to himself for fear of being called a loon. ultimately he listens to the voice and makes changes in his life, and in this case one of those changes was leaving Genesis.
I had a similar 'visit' about 8 months ago (although it was in a dream} and that visit and the message stuck with me even though i haven't acted on it (still 'in a rut'), but investigating the lyrics to this song (i heard it on my ipod the other day while working out) brought the memory of that dream flooding back and the song has deep personal meaning for me. And i don't think it's only applicable to Christianity,, Father could be the God of anyone's personal belief system |

back in the 80's i had this song on a mix tape (back then we had these things called 'cassette tapes' and i had this song come on while driving through vermont with my brother and his 5 year old kid. The creepy vibe of this song freaked out my nephew so bad my brother told me to turn off the music--it's a great song but i guess the atmosphere creeps out little kids. try it with your own rugrats! |

Why has nobody commented on this song, the greatest song by The The? What a bunch of losers you all are!
Anyways, it's pretty self-explanatory, the end of a love relationship, when all that is felt is emtpyness. And Sinead O'conner sings as part of the duet
c'mon people, get with the program!!! |

my favorite stones song, has a mixture of kick ass rock and danger. Also don't forget the first 'movie' this song was in was the self titled 'Gimme Shelter' about Altamont, where the dude was killed by hells angels during Under my Thumb. |

| Leonard Cohen – The Future Lyrics

This is a pretty heavy song along the lines of sympathy for the devil, a nihilistic look at mankind and its evil. It's also Leonard's best song (surprised I'm the first to comment). I always listen to this song by myself because he pronounces 'anal sex' so distinctly and it could cause embarrasment in mixed company. |

This is my favorite Dead song, regardless of whether it's about dope, it always makes me feel better and at peace when I hear it, heard a kick ass version @ ventura county fairgrounds when they used some echo effect and kept repeating ' Sunshine Daydream'. miss you Jerry. |

i love this song. read once that it was written when one of the B52's saw a homeless lady with a shopping cart that had a bumper sticker that said 'I Brake for Rainbows', and the homeless lady inspired this song. |

one of the funniest songs ever written, and it has a kick-ass beat to boot, i remember the first time i heard this song back in the '80's and i thought WTF was that? An ironic look at a priveleged punk's arrogant attitude. Loved how they inserted the line 'Tony Orlando and Dawn' simply because it rhymed. |

this song is about the isolation of being in a new environment or being in a place with no friends or family. Not all is bad about being in a new situation, you have more time to recognize the details in your environment and to spend time with yourself which is not always a bad thing, but time moves slower and you wonder whether anyone recognizes or cares about your existence. |

the song is about the temptations of the rock lifestyle including drugs and sex. the last verse pays tribute to the important 'significant other' (bono's wife) who keeps him grounded now that he is mature enough to avoid the temptations. |
