Evanescence – My Immortal (Piano - Vocal Version) Lyrics 21 years ago
Okay. I am a person who gets disillusioned very easily, and disillusionment crushes me. What micael_schiffer just said was very, very disillusioning.
To me, and to many other people, whatever so-called "real" meaning does not matter. At all. What really matters is how each individual, with his or her own viewpoint, sees the song and its meaning. If we'd like to think that Amy Lee wrote this after her sister's death, because then it means something to us, we can relate to it, that's just awesome. If someone wants to think Ben Moody wrote it on a plane flight to Arizona, missing his ex, that's awesome too! It really doesn't MATTER!! The song is open to self-interpretation, it means exactly what you want it to mean, disregarding whatever it was written to mean.
The only song that has one single meaning is a song that has been heard by one single person.

Thank you for your reply, and I agree with you in your interpretation.
To be honest, I wondered about the significance of the bandages on her feet, but I never thought of the possibility you mentioned.

Yes, the video is absolutely amazing. The B&W brings a romantic-ish feeling... Almost like watching the end of a sad movie. I love the fountain she walks around, and I'm sure there's a significance to the children playing soccer in the background but I have no clue what it could mean.
It brought me to tears the first time, and since then I've watched it at least five times.
Thanks again!
~By the way, proper spelling is "crucified".

I wish people would start to understand that these boards are NOT the place for arguments, debates, or all-out verbal attacks, on other reviewers or bands/songwriter. It's incredibly immature when someone feels free to verbally abuse others, safe under the relative anonynimity a username allows.
These boards are places to discuss the MEANING of the songs, NOTHING ELSE!!!

Kay. Now onto Dark Phoenix's interpretation, previous comments disregarded.
---I think it's about Amy Lee losing (in death) someone she loved. A child, maybe, but I prefer to think her love. The loneliness is eating away at her, to the point that she's "tired" of life. The expression, "You still have all of me" refers to her heart still captive by her dead love.
---A thought... Nobody else seemed to notice in the video, the bandages on her wrists and ankles. Is this to suggest self mutilation? Or to symbolize bondage (captivity) to her lost love?

Thursday – Jet Black New Year Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is just flat out incredible. I listened to it for two days straight, it's played in my head for weeks. I'm in love with it; I've never heard a song that mirrored the chaos in my soul so perfectly.

One thing about JBNY, the meaning is just --there-- and there's not really room for self interpretation or your own opinion. They're saying something and that's how it's gonna be said. Which is good, but there's also a place for more shielded and hidden lyrics.

...Anyway, this song will own me forever.

I cannot believe this stupid and pointless banter. Therefore, I will go back to the point of this board. To comment on the song MEANINGS.

I think this song is absolutely gorgeous. Amy Lee has a fabulous voice and it reaches my soul as it does many others. I agree with the majority of comments that the song is about losing a loved one.

I just saw the video about half an hour ago, and couldn't help but notice the bandages on her wrists and ankles. Are these to suggest self mutilation? Or to symbolize bondage to the dead loved one?

Any (sane) comments, please reply!
