Why does everthying have to do with 'God'? God is a name and he would reference it if nessessary. Has no one ever heard of a thing called Symbolism? (You know, the thing that is even more universal than religion, or even more specifically, one religion?) That being said... Here's my interpretation. "it's getting dark... too soon... a threatening silence... surrounding me... a wind comes up from the islands..." (Darkness is a reference to the unknown, and it's coming upon him almost suddenly, and he is overwhelmed. Wind is the forces he does not control. The island represents his feeling of isolation.) "Distance fades to stormy grey washed out from the deep of the ocean here i will stand to face your wrath..." (He feels disconnected from reality; the ocean is also reference to the unknown, in which he uses to describe how the unknown makes him feel. He is facing it, not avoiding it.) "While all the others are praying" (While those around him place reason or blame upon a power outside themselves - hence why I say it's not about/to 'god') "Calm down my heart... don't beat so fast... don't be afraid just once in a lifetime" He is raising the energy within himself to face his fears of what is to come.) "No rain can wash away my tears no wind can soothe my pain you made me doubt, you made me fear but now I'm not the same" (He recognizes his weakness in the current situation. He will always remember, stained forever by his loss, hence it will never fade nor wash away. He has been changed by the loss.) "You took my wife, my unborn son... torn into the deep of the ocean" (Once again, not talking to a Diety. Fate or life more like. His fear is dealing with his loss, moving on. He references specific people, wife and child, so this song is clearly about his loss.) "I don't pretend that i love you cause there is nothing left to loose" (many people often hold their lives with a sort of value. He lost everything that mattered to him, so therefore, he is letting go of his fear of the unknown. He's ready to move on.) "And when silence comes back to me i find myself feeling lonely standing here on the shores of destiny i find myself feeling lonely" (He realizes that the unknown (ocean) holds potential to start over, but he is unsure (hence standing on the shore looking at it). He realizes he must move forward but he doesn't know how to on his own.) "I had a life to give... many dreams to live..." (He mourns what he thought was the future, something that was comfortable rather than unknown.) "Don't you know that you're losing so much this time" (I think he is talking to himself again here, because not only did he lose people in his life, but also a part of himself and what life meant to him before. He has to start completely over.) "Beyond the waves... i will be free" (Once he embraces the unknown and moves forward, he will be free of his grief.) |

I neither agree nor disagree with takeyouonacruise and bolt. It doesn't make sense for him to say "I live my life in cocaine" because the next line continues, "Just some rage and three kinds of yes". This makes the most grammatical sense... "I live my life filled with no pain Just some rage and three kinds of yes" HOWEVER. I do believe the auditory similarity in "no pain" and "cocaine" could very well be a deliberate play on words. Either way, it's clear what he's referring to. |
