Avenged Sevenfold – Desecrate Through Reverance Lyrics 15 years ago
Maybe it's speaking from the point of view of God? A creator who never necessarily wanted to be looked at as a god? Never wanted to be prayed to, asked for help by millions of people, and possibly a creator who has even lost hope in his creation over time? (ex. "Darkened eyes you'll see - there is no hope, no savior in me...learned from years gone by - no one will care what happens to me) Maybe he's sick of always being asked for help, and having to care about everyone, with no one caring about what his condition/situation?

Could be the Devil's point of view also, or maybe even a verse from god and a verse from the devil..I do think that it's definitely about religion though...mainly because the title, like someone already said, basically means "to make something less important by making it more than it should be" ...

In Flames – Evil In A Closet Lyrics 17 years ago
Haven't really read many of the comments, so I'm not sure if anyone else has posted this already, but with this song, I always picture the old game "7 seconds in heaven", i think - isn't that what it was called. Anyway, the idea is that a guy and a girl go in the closet alone, and have 7 seconds to kiss, feel each other up, have a quickie fuck, or any kind of sexual act they can get in that short amount of time. 7 seconds of heaven basically involves young kids(usually) doing things they usually would not be allowed to do...Evil in a closet makes me think of the opposite of 7 seconds in heaven...almost like he would want to be alone with her just to talk, laugh and get to know her. Seems that he really wants some kind of meaningful companion with her, and most likely not just a good friend. While there is no evil in heaven, supposedly, then the good intentions he has for the time he would get to spend with her could be regarded as evil in a closet, since it is the opposite of what the other kids would be trying to do. Anyone follow that? Get the connection I'm making here? I could come up with many possibilities of what happened in the story this song could depict, like maybe she went in the closet with some guy and he tried to get sex, or something like that, and for whatever reason she actually liked the guy, and got with him for awhile, which pushes the singer out of the way for awhile. EX. "I could never attract tomorrow - it pushes me aside.." and the line "Maybe in another lifetime, I could be the first you meet." - seems to me that he's saying if things went differently, if the bottle stopped spinning on him, he could be her first. It would be him alone in that closet with her, doing his 'evil' to the '7 seconds of Heaven' game. His 'evil' was only doing what the other guys there weren't trying to do, namely talk and get to know the girl, because he truly wanted to be with her, not just a cheap thrill or a one night stand. Ok another line - "I once read a poem "
-possibly a poem he wrote for her, or just that he felt fit that he should read to her..
"Held my breath" - he hesitated, got nervous or just couldn't find the 'right moment' to him.
"But that moment's gone" - someone else at the party interrupts and takes her into the closet, or maybe just asked her out, and now his(the guy singing) chance is gone..
"First time I felt life somewhat hurts" - mostly self - explanatory here..
"Need an option and some hope" - he feels that if he can find another chance(an option), or some other way...and he can keep hope that it may come true, then maybe he will get that something special with the girl who he missed his chance with before. I hope at least some of you understand what i'm getting at, and if you do, please post and let me know if u agree, or disagree...I just want any kind of feedback, because this is really the way this song has always been pictured in my mind.

Nine Inch Nails – Another Version of the Truth Lyrics 17 years ago
Not sure if anyone has said this, I just quickly scanned the comments, but it sounds almost like you could put this song and "In This Twilight" together into one song, like "Another Version of The Truth In This Twilight" - another way to look at the darkness all this has plunged our world into. I feel he may be saying that it's better that we've destroyed the perversion that we turned our world into, and we start again from nothing. All the lights are out, and civilization has to start anew. Just a thought that came to my mind..anyone else?

Mudvayne – Not Falling Lyrics 18 years ago
Well obviously I've never done any gardening, but I looked it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agricultural_lime
It increases the ph of acidic soil, provides a source of calcium for plants, and improves water penetration for acidic soils. Not really sure, but i'm guessing he just means he'll just do what he can to help himself grow the best way possible. Sort of like saying "just do the best you can, and be yourself"

Mudvayne – Mercy, Severity Lyrics 18 years ago
Alot of people have good comments already that I believe are correct, including the "Mother of Destruction" with her belt of skulls being a reference to Kali, the four-armed goddess of death & destruction.

The main thing I wanted to add is that I also believe that the songs on this album relate to a sign of the horoscope, and the sign of this song is Aquarius. Astrology divides our history into time periods and these time periods are also given their sign, just like the roughly month-long divisions throughout each year. If I'm remembering correctly, the Age of Aquarius is the age we are currently in. I'd say this has to relate to the song's meaning. I should've checked before posting to be sure of all this, but I believe we enter a new age soon, & if I remember correctly, according the sign of our next age of history, it will be a time of great change. Like I said, if I would've checked first I could tell you when the age changes, and more detail on it, but it shouldn't be hard to research. Just search for "Age of Aquarius" or maybe Astrological Ages in history...something like that. I think that's all I needed to add. Between all the comments so far, I think the meaning I would believe is already roughly known. Good job everyone.

Mudvayne – Skrying Lyrics 18 years ago
Haven't spent much time yet figuring how it relates to the song, but 'skrying' was a ritual used by alchemists Edward Kelly and John Dee long ago (around 1360 or so, i think) in which Kelly looked into a crystal orb and saw visions of angels which pointed a staff at different lines, cracks and spaces in the orb which then would glow to form letters or symbols, supposedly sometimes symbols of an angelic language. They were given to these two and told that if they worked with the information given for 7 years, and worked together equally, they could learn to make the Philosopher's Stone, which could bring the Apocalypse, the new stage of mankind's evolution and higher enlightenment(not the destructive Apocalypse most people think of now). They did the best they could, but the 7 year mark came and went with no major changes.

It's theorized that this was possibly a hoax created by Edward Kelly(as he was the one who claimed to be able to skry the orb, seeing the angels and the symbols revealed to him) to take advantage of John Dee and the King's(can't remember which king it was at that time) desire for the powerful Philosopher's Stone of legend..

It is strange that after this time period, Edward Kelly was no longer mentioned in history...and some think there's possibility that he kept vital information to himself and ran off with it. Who knows? but how all that may relate, i am really not sure...
Just thought some of you might appreciate a little historic background on Skrying.

Mudvayne – Not Falling Lyrics 18 years ago
Sorry for the double post, just forgot to mention that "Goodbye sunshine, I put it out again - Sad" is a good example of the Leo reference. The Sun is the planetary master over the Leo sign, and goes along with Leos being outgoing, determined, rarely depressed(Sad) people. I think that part is his reaction to too much of the other people's bullshit gettin to him, and that's where he goes on to the selfish attitude of needing no one but himself, just living his own life - another leo trait too..

I wish I could make something of the "shovel dirt over lime, plant it in myself to sit like a seed under covers of earth and just be" part. Why shovel dirt over lime? Well ok, I've taken more than my share of space..

Mudvayne – Not Falling Lyrics 18 years ago
Good, I'm glad someone commented on the connection with the sign of Leo here...I was going to have to mention that. Also, someone earlier mentioned the ties to the song "46 & 2" by Tool. Check that song out and see if it helps you get how it relates to the "refuse my shadow" part.

Just a few quick comments here - the part "Sinners, casting stones at me" seems to me to say that most people who give you shit about your own life and your own ways are hypocritical, and probably venting at you mostly because of their own insecurities about the way they live. (If you don't know, this was originally "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", and this is just an inverse of that.

This part I'm not sure of, cause I know he's saying "I bleed - for no one - but myself" but I also take it as " I bleed - the demons - that drag me down"...which I think is just saying that his demons come from inside himself. I believe that part is intended to work two ways. I know some of you relate to creating your own demons, which eventually drag you down...I damn sure do.

In short, it's mainly just a Leo's persona viewing the troubles created both from other people and self-manifested problems, and being determined to stand strong, and Not Falling...
(I could be wrong though)

I know this is supposed to be about the meaning of the song, but it seems that you guys have done a good job of the possible interpretations. I just want to see if there any fellow guitar players who appreciate the range and skill of the guitarists of A7X like I do. Just in this song, there's the dual guitar intro, the heavy chugging parts, and even a classical spanish style part behind the words "A good friend once told me...". They are very skilled, and go through many different styles of playing in just one song! And it all sounds great. A7X kicks ass! That's all I wanted to say here...

Avenged Sevenfold – Radiant Eclipse Lyrics 19 years ago
Well I was just thinking maybe he had a dream where he saw this happen and was dreaming like he was a spirit, and he writes the song about it really happening, when he knew it would take place because of the dream - he saw his own ending. I'm thinking the shooting was accidental, as it was his friend. Other than I'm not sure - the other ideas could work too

Not sure if anyone said this already, but it really sounds to me like he's saying 'Confiding in me was your HOME' , not 'HEART'. That's what it sounds like to me. This song kicks ass

Roman thank you for taking the time to follow up on that for me. Can you or anyone else here tell me what it says on the inside sleeve? One part just says 'APC' coded with 3 of those symbols - on the other side are a bunch of symbols, and i had them written down years ago. Looks like it maybe in French, or Latin. I was going to find someone who could translate if for me, but the paper i wrote it on got lost and not long after that the CD and case went missing too.

This remix has a wicked feel/sound to it, and the original song was great to start with. As for Tesladin's references to terrorism in the first part, this song was out long before the 'War on Terror' got started on 9/11, but take the song how u choose to take it. I agree with some of you that commented on the "YOUR god" - seems to me that he is saying that there are many different views/beliefs on god, and that personal beliefs don't have to fit in to any categorization; that individuals should maintain their individual belief and not let anyone push them towards any cookie-cut ideas or ill-inspired groups with wrongful motives(ex. greed). I know I wrote alot on just one small part of the song, but i think it helps a little with much of the other lyrics.

Shinedown – Save Me Lyrics 20 years ago
I got the part about the candle and the spoon being used for heroin, and I think "I live in a hallway, with no doors, and no rooms" could mean he feels alone, and with nowhere to go - no known destination. -Like someone in a hallway but locked out of all the rooms. Or it could just be talking about a junkie who really lives in a hallway of an old apartment building...

but what about the the second part of the verse - " under a windowsill, they all were found. A touch of concrete within the doorway, without a sound." ?? I don't get that part.

Oh ok. Didn't know it was french, but did anyone notice all the symbols written on the cd sleeve? They say the names for the songs with a quote from each one. It is possible to decode the symbols, because I did it once, and there's more symbols written on the sleeve that translates to somethin else in french (I thought it was latin at the time) but I lost it before I could find out what it meant. If anyone else has looked into this, let me know what u found, ok? Thanx.

Really great song. It's been awhile since I've heard it, but isn't this the one that has Mike in the background saying "just wish that I didn't love you..." and "take back all the things I said to make u feel like that" ? I might be wrong, but if so it sounds like a bad end to a relationship.

A Perfect Circle – Pet Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about both drugs and politics, in that the propaganda given to the public surrounding the war is intended to keep public opinion complacent just like a drug would calm a habitual user. The higher powers would like us to remain calm & trust in their judgement so that we don't cause them any problems while they get what they want from the current chaotic situation of the world. They give us the misleading impression of a protective authority to gain trust for their actions and motives. They "protect us" from our concerns by restricting our specific knowledge and our choices, and distancing us from the war, making it seem as if we have no say and no part in it. BTW, I just signed up here yesterday & this is my second post on a APC song, so feel free to let me know what u think of my opinion. =)

A Perfect Circle – The Hollow Lyrics 21 years ago
I think that this song is pretty much just what most of you guys said--an intense emotion causing the feeling of an emptiness inside. The "dominoes of indiscretion" are the effects brought on by reckless desire, which can consume a person. Also, just wondering if anyone has thought about the album title "Mer De Noms"--I believe it's Latin for "name of the Sea", & the sea is often a symbol of deep emotion.
