| Barenaked Ladies – The Flag Lyrics

|
|
I somewhat agree with the other explainations but have a few other ideas. I think both people in the relationship realize that it is bad yet they seem to be unable to correct things, to control the situation. The "there goes" part seems to be the hope of the two of two of them, seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. The ribbons of the flag part make me think that the flag has been destroyed and they have either worked their problems out or have broken up. Who knows, really. |

| The Decemberists – Leslie Ann Levine Lyrics

How could Leslie be the descendent of two people who killed themselves. I think the song is sung, as strange as it sounds, from the perspective of a dead baby. I feel like the she is a ghost and is haunting the streets and "curses her mother". She was abandoned by her mother and still "clings to the petticoats of the girl who died with me." I think her mother actually died shortly after the baby was born or died emotionally when she killed/gave up her baby. Wierd, I know, but it makes sense and is complex like their songs tend to be. |

Don't agree with the pairing of the songs at all but the suicide seems possilbe. It seems to just be about someone who has so little to live for yet he soldiers on. I dont know if he really killed himself, it might just be that he died. Tragic end to a tragic, sad life. Goes with the style of the CD. |

I must say I am more enamored with the songs from the newest CD yet this one always intrigues me. The lyrics stump me and frankly I don't have any idea what its about. Iwould love to hear from and actual band member. |

Agree with the last two, although I am going to do a bit of interpretation. It is just a refelction of his travels, maybe he's tired. The song portrays more of an emotion than a story, which is odd for them. |

What an amazing song with amazing feeling. He seems to just want to make this person happy, encourage them like a true friend/love. It is also incredibly beautiful. Everyone could use someone like this. |

The CD is Haughty Melodic. The songs about a girl he likes but he seems to think that he's not good enough (but I'm no prize for you). |

| Mike Doughty – Looking at the World From the Bottom of a Well Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
Does it always have to be about drugs? Nope, but the only other choices are love or heart break. I chose love here, or a kind of love. I think he is in a situation we all know too well. One in which he hasn't been in love for a while, hence the lonely line. I think this Cuban girl is someone he recently met, perhaps someone who sparks something in him, infatuation. He has been a bit lost and lonely and thats what he is singing about.
That was incredibly incoherent and probably wrong but its a great song so who cares. |

Love this song, especially the line when he says that, with his mom at least he'd get his washing done. Its about a guy dating a rich girl and she thins he's rich too but in reality he is not and he's sick of pretending. |

I can't believe no one has commented on this song, it is one of my favorites. I am not much for lyrical interpretation but the music in this song and the way it is sung just remind me of a moment forzen in time, like maybe on a summer night. I love Iron and Wine. |

i ama romantic at heart so i love this song. I like everyone's analysis of what the song means, they seem accurate, but I tend to go with the feeling of the song and what emotions it brings up. I get the feeling of those moments when you just feel great about the person you are with, just little simple moments. |

I guess I just get a feeling off this song instead of one certain event. The writer was just looking back on life and feeling kind of crappy. I know the feeling so I really enjoyed this song. And no, I am not having an ulcer because anyone can enjoy music, no matter what you think of them. |

I think that the song can be about any relationship, when you don't have or feel like you have the support of those around you and you feel like everyone is waiting for things to go wrong. I don't know who wrote it but I love the song and especially the line "you gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds baylight". |

Also very impressed, and a bit frightened, by how much you know about Brian Wilson, although you probably read it in his bio or something. This is a great song and has many references to Brian Wilson but, like many BNL songs, it has many layers. He is "lying in bed like Brian Wilson did". The writer is also going through a depression and a writers block that reminds him of all that Brian Wilson went through. Great song, especially live on the greatest hits CD or in concert. Love BNL. |

I agree that this song is about a guy who still lives with his girlfriend but goes back to the place they used to live and starts to remember things. It is a somewhat sad song because they no longer live there but they are still together and he is just remembering the "good old days". |

This song does have the deeper meaning of a guy who would give up anything to be with this girl but it is also making fun of Yoko Ono and the whole situation with her and the Beatles. It is a classic BNL song, funny but meaningfull. |

The song is about when you first start drinking and you realize that when you are drunk you can kind of be anyone you want. It also warns that you can't be drunk all the time cause it will mess up your life, you have to learn that your drunk self is not your real self. Sorry, that was just be babbling. Good song, GREAT band, live and on CD. |

Yeah, I saw that interview and it said that it was about how the lead singer came out to his mom. It is such a good song that is supremely catchy (I get it stuck in my head all the time). The video, if you ever get the chance to see it, is also pretty good and you get to see all the members of the band. |

Itotally agree with and how. It seems to be about ove and taking the chance to fall in love and possibly get hurt. The singer is urging the person she loves to "breakdown" his walls and "jump in". I love the song and recomend the band to anyone else who enjoys it because Frou Frou is AWESOME. |

| Frou Frou – It's Good to Be in Love Lyrics

From the lyrics I get that her guy is in love with her but she is not in love with him and she is tired of faking it. But when you listen to the song it has more of a sad feeling to it that makes me agree with the other interpretations that she is in love with someone that loves someone else. You just get a different feeling form the song when you listen to it opposed to reading it. Either way, it is another excellent song by Frou Frou. |

I have heard the song backwards and you know what I think it sound like-someone singing backwards. God, you people need to get a life. This song is, of course, great and when I listen to it I get the feeling of anger or revenge, like some woman has really hurt him and he is pissed off. But I have no real basis for that, just the feeling Iget from the song, so you can think whatever you want. |

This soung is definately about youth but I think it is about the end of being a teenager, realizing that life is calling. They are starting to really think about life and although they never want it to end they are realizing that these might be their last years of "freedom". This song is what turned me on to the pumpkins at a relatively young age and I have been a huge fan ever since. |

Well, regarding the song title, I think that the person doing heroin"gives up" on life and finds that the only thing keeping him going is heroin. This band reminds me of a mix between Queen and maybe Led Zeppelin. I love the jump suit he wears at their shows. Great song, actually my favorite song on the album. I don't see them getting too popular unless they come out with some new stuff that hits a little harder but I really like them. And of course. long live Led Zeppelin, and The Who, and The Doors, and Pink Floyd... |
