Brilliance. She cynically realizes the world is "that way"... what a great line. The Sundays take simple expressions that mean so much and put them with terrific music. |

This could have been the Sundays big hit in the US if only they would have released it IN THE SUMMERTIME! haha Not that I thought they needed a big hit, but it's such a great song that I wanted more people to hear it and love it, too.
This has to be one of the classic song endings:
"two peas from the same pod, yes we are,
or have I read too much fiction?
Is this how it happens?"
So powerful with the music, and brilliant lyrically. |

Beautiful, simple song. Reminds me that you don't need electronics, loud guitars, amps, etc to get a feeling across. In fact, you're often better off without 'em. |

This is one of those songs that the music is absolutely vital to the lyrics. I can't imagine anyone ever covering it differently.
The din in her head must be something worse than her explanation of a simple ringing ear. |

I've always felt like this song (and others on this CD) didn't get enough notice. Mary's voice is really touching on this song -- the poignant end of a relationship. |

I've always felt that this was one of the most beautiful songs written by Natalie. It's so neatly tied together that some people might find it too 'perfect', but really, I think they'd just be jealous of the songwriting brilliance. As if tying the first three verses together into the fourth verse wasn't clever enough, she ends the song with what is the crux of all relationships -- trust. |

This was a really early Maniacs song that is actually kinda cool. It got me interested in poetry of Wilfred Owen, and WWI poets in general. For that I'd call it a success. |

There's more to this song than a simple walk through a cemetery, though that is one layer of it. Lilydale is a location in Western New York (near where the Maniacs formed and wrote many songs) that is famous for its ghosts and hauntings. A recent book about Lily Dale is available by Christine Wicker. |
