| Regina Spektor – 8th Floor Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i don't speak russian, so i don't know how accurate it is, but i found this from lyricwiki.org: Восьмой этаж Восьмой этаж Все высоко Все надо мной Вот идет домой Карман пустой Хоть милостыню просите Три рубля на водку и буханку белого хлеба А теперь, наверное, все дороже И дорожки те забыты А над ними паруса Первый этаж Я маленькая Все высоко Все надо мной Восьмой этаж Америка Я высоко Все подо мной Я высоко... translation! The eighth floor The eighth floor Everything's high Everything is above me Somebody is coming home Pocket is empty You could go begging It's three rubles for vodka and a loaf of white bread But now, for certain, everything's more expensive And the old paths are forgotten Above them we set sail The first floor I'm really small Everything's high Everything is above me The eighth floor America I am high Everything is below me I am high... |

| Regina Spektor – Edit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think feelthewaltz has pretty much summed this up. However, I think asteroid also has a valid point. I don't think it's a mistake that this song makes such ambiguous drug references (white lines, keeping it steady, not being ready for the lies, the song doctor robert by the beatles being about a doctor known for supplying celebrities with drugs). Basically, I think it IS about writing, but Regina has incorporated these drug references in there for some reason as well. I don't really know what it is, though. | |

| Sonic Youth – Unmade Bed Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| wow. this song is so amazing. i cannot even begin to articulate what it means or how i feel about it. it isn't just the lyrics, either. the instrumental accompaniment adds an entire other layer to the song. beautiful. | |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Porcelina of the Vast Oceans Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I agree entirely with RainbowDemon. ALL of the lyrics make this song: not just a few lines that make sketchy references to drugs. The way I see this song, it's about a girl. Through her he learns many important aspects of life. The ocean is deep, mysterious. Maybe Porcelina is a character he formulated in his mind to help him learn and comprehend various things in life? |

| This Mortal Coil – Song Of The Siren Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Firstly I'd just like to say that this song is actually titled "Song to the Siren" not "Song of the Siren", and it was also written and originally sung by Tim Buckley. With that out of the way, I'd just like to say that this tribute to the song is beautifully and magnificently arranged and composed. It is so beautiful and lucious and just absolutely haunting and I personally believe it is better than Tim Buckley's version. This song is being sung TO a siren (hence the title) and it's basically about a man who has been tempted by a woman who is rejecting the man now that he is hers. The references to the boat being broken and whatnot may be about how this man has thrown everything in his life away for this woman. In the end of the song the man is just in love with the woman and being refused and is sort of like "what do I do now?" |

| [this] is a beautiful song and lyrically it means a lot to me. i think it's about holding onto your innocence in the face of everything; it's such a celebration of life. | |
