I always thought it was "way past tense" not "way past tales". In fact it was one of my favourite lines of the whole song. Way past tense. As in, "I am so agitated that I am way beyond using the word "tense" to describe how I feel." |

| A Perfect Circle – Fiddle And The Drum Lyrics

I'd say you got about half the point. It is about a war-hungry nation, but if you want a song about the Military Industrial Complex, a song meant for people who want to PROFIT from war, that song is called "Let's go to war".
This song is intended for the people who instead think of war as necessary, as needing to look tough, striking down anyone who dare oppose you, and calling anyone who questions a war "unpatriotic". "And when I ask you why, you raise your sticks and cry, and I fall" is a way of saying "When I ask you why go to war, you call me unpatriotic, unamerican, you say that I don't support our troops."
The song is saying that yes, you may have genuine enemies, but just because people say you shouldn't go to war, doesn't mean they are on your enemy's side.
"How did you come to trade the fiddle for the drum?" - How did your primary purpose, your main message, of being a land of opportunity, a beacon of hope, turn into eradicating terrorism, and obliterating your enemies out of existence? |

| A Perfect Circle – Let's Have A War Lyrics

It's a facetious song from the perspective of people who tend to want to go to war. "Give guns to the queers" is a short way of saying "We can have soldiers fight our wars, AND get the gay people out of our town, if we let them join the military!"
But saying it's just supposed to sound like a "right-winger" is a bit too broad. Not all right-wing conservative people want to send gay people off to die in a war just to eliminate their presence in their towns. Not that I am one. A conservative, I mean. I would rather people think I'm gay than right-wing. |

If A Perfect Circle is homophobic, I'll eat my own shoe. The song is a facetious call for war from the perspective of the dominant, wealthy, homophobic class. "Let's give guns to the queers" is the song saying that, in the eyes of this class, "we can have soldiers fight our war, AND get rid of the gay people in our town, all at once!" |

Thanks for the info about the word Toma; google couldn't even tell me if it was a Spanish word that means "to drink" or a Japanese word that means "long distance". Although they both make sense, and Maynard has used japanese words in his previous album. |

| Tool – Schism Lyrics

Just because the word "schism" is commonly used to refer to religious groups splitting, it doesn't mean that is what the word means. The word schism means "a split between two people or groups, as a result of differing opinions or beliefs".
It's a love song, people, come on. Its about Maynard's ex-wife. A very very beautiful love song, at that, no wonder it won a Grammy. |

| Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Helplessly Hoping Lyrics

This song describes my relationship pretty well. A man helping himself to a woman's bad dreams and he worries.
One person trying to save another person's tattered life, and the other person trying to save their life by forcing them away.
Just trying to save eachother's life. |

It means that you're too shy to tell her that you love her, and you begin to lie to yourself and tell yourself that she isn't interested in you, to the point of self destruction. |
