| The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics

I know this isn't the intended meaning of the song...but I recently split up with my boyfriend and this song seemed to relate to the situation so perfectly. Especially the lines "In the darkened underpass..." because he was my first boyfriend and we broke up because I got scared. It makes me cry everytime. If it hasn't got me before then the repetition of "There is a light that never goes out" won't fail. |

Well...don't need new friends anymore. I've converted them *mwahahahahaha* Granted only 2 of them like any, and that's just Dark Side of the Moon, but progress is progress
And I wouldn't suggest to anyone that they listen to it on their own in a dark room, but what can I say? I'm a masochist, and it was...an experience. Actually less scary that Several Species... |

Quite a few people have mentioned the line "There is no dark side of the moon really...matter of fact it's all dark." But this line wasn't planned. They asked people questions where they were recording the album and one was "What do you think the dark side of the moon really is?". This was just someone like the caretakers response or something. Strange how it has such meaning...
And Sgt Pepper, you're wrong. |

I adore this song and I think the solo is amazing. You think it's gone on for a while and will be stopping soon and then it changes! It's just greatt. I could see why someone would think it's too long, but for me it's perfect. Most people I know like "Sweet Home Alabama" more than this though, and I like SHA but it's nowhere near as powerful as this is! What d'you guys think? |

Okay...Gilmour may not be that good with words, but didn't he write Comfortably Numb? He can't all be bad. |

Ok, I really love this song. Until recently I just thought it was really random and stuff, but I was listening to it the other day and had an idea that made sense to me, it's probably wrong but I'm not bothered. I know it aint traditional for Floyd, but it sounds like kinda a love song? Like the guy is saying he doesn't have much, but what he's got the girl can have too. I know I'm wrong, it's just an opinion. And I love the fact that it's so English too. |

Am I the only one that really loves this song AND it's lyric? It's not the nest, neithers the album. But with a band this good, a fantastic song doesn't have to be the best. |

I know they have other German referances. I didn't say it was a one off, but it means
"I am called superfantastic, I drink champagne and salmon fish"
That's pretty random if you ask me. |

I don't really know about the rest of the song, but I kinda thought the last lines meant everything would be perfect if there wasn't something there to stop it. Like everything under the sun is in tune, the makings of everything being right is there but the moon is there preventing this. That's just what I think, I'm probably wrong. It's a bit like life really. We have what we need to make it perfect, but human nature prevents this. |

I agree with LeoVK (is that right?). I think it's about him fancying someone and you notice everything they do cos you get obsessed with them. She was only doing little things, playing with her hir etc, but he notices. |

And how can you say Germany didn't want the war-they had a bloody war plan 18 months before it started!! No one made them invade Belgium. |

I think it's about sex too, and d'you know that "die" is a Shakesperian type metaphor for come to orgasm? So yeah, I think so. I suppose it could also eb about drugs, I never thought about it that way. |

LintNinja...to say that Germany had "little to do with the start of world war one" is naive bullshit. Sorry to be rude, but it annoys me when people say that the first world war only started because of Franz Ferdinand being shot. Yes, that was the catylyst that finally made the war begin, but if it hadn't been for Germany none of this would have happenned. The first world war was at least 90% Germany's fault. Germany was greedy, too imperialistic and selfish. The Kaiser spared no thought for the other countries and made enemies everywhere. And if they hadn't given Austria-Hungary COMPLETE support for taking Bosnia-Herzegovina, then the Black Hand gang wouldn't have been created and Franz wouldn't have been shot. So don't say it's not to do with Germany, because it nearly all was. |
