I think what this song is trying to say is that what makes life beautiful is your experiences, good or bad. If you take a step back and look at your life as a whole, you can realize that your hardships and interactions with people are what make you who you are...or how a person can deal with so many hardships, but from the outside it never looks like what it really is. Describing the beauty of individual struggle. Either way, I love this song...it's definitely bittersweet. |

This song is so beautiful...from what I can tell (as some have mentioned before), the guy loves the girl but she feels like she doesn't want to be with him. The song says: Your heart is a river that flows from your chest through every organ your brain is the dam and I am the fish who cant reach the cord It's like the girl's thoughts are stopping her from giving in to her heart, and the singer is trying to reach her brain and make her realize it is what's in her heart that matters. Oh, instincts are misleading you shouldn't think what you're feeling they don't tell you what you know you should want That part is basically saying how thoughts cannot decide how you feel about a person--so-called "instincts" only misdirect people from what they know is meant to be. As for "ivory lines lead", I thought that one possible meaning could be bones...it's a little grisly, but since the song talks about the singer being a fish searching inside the girl's body (so to speak), bones could be leading in all directions, representing the confusion she feels about her emotions, misguiding the singer as he tries to uncover her true feelings. Overall, I think the message of the song is that your heart always knows what is best. But those are just my interpretations.. |
